Stock air intake

Im installing my stock air intake for smog reasons and was wondering if there was suppose to be a seal after the meter. You can see a small gap between the meter and the plastic housing. To me it would seem like the engine will suck up unmetered air. I don't really recall something being there.

That doesn't seem like a stock intake. Here's an old picture of my original intake. The MAF is inside the housing where the connector goes in

I don't think it requires anything. Looks like a picture of the box which houses the mass air meter. Just install the front portion which houses the air filter.

We don't have emissions testing but why do you have to install the stock stuff? Even the cold air kits are smog legal. I can't think of anything that wouldn't pass emissions, even homemade kits.

It's the back portion of maf housing. Smog shops are being more strict here in Cali. If the cold air kits don't have a carb number, they instantly fail the visual from what they told me. Just trying to avoid anything that might fail me. I'll throw the aftermarket intake back when it's done.

i live in Cali and my stang has a no name CAI they still pass it as long as the stuff from the original intake is on the Cold air kit

My father in laws f250 has a home made kit and it pass fine

There is a gap around the meter on the backside,but it's blocked off inside the box. Unless the box has been cut to fit an aftermarket meter.
