How do I know when my balancer goes? My car has around 130 K on it. Is it time for a new one? BTW I'm on a budget also. No more than $100 for a new one, is this realistic?

if it's wobbling replace it NOW. you do not want the balancer to separate.

the lowest priced one would be stock replacement 100 - 120 from ford.

the only one you will get for around $100 is a stock replacement.

I know it sucks to be on a budget, but I would not skimp on this one. I wouldn't go buy some cheapo. The better you get them smoother the engine.

I have an aftermarket perf. balancer from summit on mine and I would not recomend it. the dia. is larger and the water pump lower bolt housing had to be clearanced, and the balancer is narrower so the pulley needed to be shimmed. It fit more like a generic balancer than one made for 94-95 5.0 as advertized. I'm gonna switch back to oem.

Steps to pull the balancer.

Disconnect the battary
Pull the electric fan out
Take off the belt
Take off the crank pulley
Put the car in 5th gear and break loose the balancer bolt
Take the bolt out
Get a balancer puller and pull the balancer off
Put some gasket sealer on the balancer input
Put the balancer on with a rubber hammer but don't hit the outside of the balancer.
Put the bolt on and crank it down and pull it to the crank

Thanks for the instructions! Does it have to match up the same way the old one was, for timing and stuff? Or does it matter?

There is a keyway that will allow it to be installed only one way.
