On my 09 the stock rear end started to whine on throttle tip in soon after I took delivery. She's an auto so she has the 3.31 rear. I took it to Tasca Ford (figuring since they have a perf center and do Super Snakes for Shelby, they'd know what they were doing) for a warranty service and they replaced the R & P. Guess what? Within 10 minutes after picking her up, the whine was back worse then ever. Actually sounds like 4 different pitched whines.
Should I insist on a whole new rear? Or should I just let them replace the R & P again? I love the car but this has got me PO'ed. I am giving Ford the requisite 3 times to fix it right or give me a new car - as you can tell from my handle, it is easy for me to file suit if they do not want to play ball lol.
Anyone running a rear end from New Take Off? Considering I would like to go to 3.73 sometime in the future and the gear install troubles I am having, I think that might be the way to go.

Gear wine is not a big deal, It is a big deal if the noise bothers you. The wine should not be there from a new car. Take it to a different dealer and document what was said and what they did. Ford used to , What they call, "Run IN" a set of gears, Ford stopped doing that, and now, sometimes a wine happens. Make a deal with the General Manager, You buy some 3.73's and they install them, Wine free, For free. Or they get the wine out.
Setting the pinion gear closer to the Ring gear will get some of the wine out, but that will also shorten the gear sets life and cause wear.

The original whine was super loud between 50 and 80 (especially with my LCA's) with throttle applied and now it is all the time at 40 and up - and also when coasting. Not super loud but it is annoying as hell and can't be normal Sounds like there are 4 damn ghosts in the trunk.

I asked about supplying my own gears the first time I took her in and they nixed that idea, afraid Ford would refuse to pay labor.

Go talk to the General Manager, Explain the problem, and ask him/her if they could install your new 373s instead of installing a new set of 331s. They have to fix it anyway, the fix is a new set of gears, under warranty or ones you buy? doesn't sound like a real difficult decision.
