I've been told they are fiberglass. I'm a cop and have worked a few crashes involving Mustangs with front end damage. I've seen both steel and fiberglass. My guess is that the steel hoods might be an aftermarket alternative to stock

Ford calls it a "composite material" I believe, which I think is fancy talk for fiberglass/plastic.

GM calls it SMC I believe, sheet molded compound, thats waht vettes have been made out of for a while
