anyone know what the biggest lift cam you can run with svo1.72's and stock pistons and E7's. i was told i could go to an E cam with them and be ok... anyone know if an F cam would clear?
E303 is .498 and an F303 is .512 so .15 bigger

All those cam specs are for 1.6 rockers.

With 1.7's the

E303 is .535
F303 is .550
TFS is .548 on the lift. You have to factor in coil bind hieght and rocker arm travel. If you run these cams, I suggest at least a roller rocker setup, and different valve springs. The stock springs will float the valves like a bitch, specially with the agressive lobe of the E and F cams. Either way springs are must. And @ about .520 lift the stock rocker arms are running out of travel. And when that happens, **** bends or breaks.

The numbers I calculated were for 1.72's I just left the 2 out when I posted.

I would go with the Trick Flow before I would the other two cams you mentioned. I really dont like the TFS cam, I dont feel it would be optimal for your setup. Too much duration and not enough lift. But that is the best out of the 3.

10 years ago I bought an SN to replace my foxbody. I came over here to ask a question for a friend, and got curious, so I started reading, and now I am getting flashbacks. Anyway, I would just fly cut the pistons if you need the clearance. Lunati sells a tool to cut the pistons while they are still in the engine; all you need is a spare cylinder head. We used to do this all the time back in the old days, and we never had a problem.

Oh, and IMHO, don't waste your hard earned money and precious time on a letter cam. They are good for noise, but don't do **** for power.

Just out of curiosity why do you want a big cam for E7s?

There's a lot more to clearances than just lift numbers.
