ok, so did a couple quick pulls. i know i'm short shifting the car. not looking at the tach, but it seems its revving so high, but it just keeps pulling. where is the factory rev limiter, and where do you guys shift at?

i'm not a numbers guy normally. i shift by how the car feels, but i've been short shifting afraid of hitting the limiter and sounding like a dick since this car revs so much higher then my 5.0 did. no clue how short i'm shifting it, paying attention to road. so i figure a rough number will help me next time i decide to get on it.

thanks, sorry if i sound like a moe-rawn. haha.

edit, by me saying i'm short shifting it, i think i'm short shifting it because it doesn't feel like it stops pulling, and when i shift into the next gear, its out of the power band. i'm speed shifting, not power shifting, the RPMs aren't dropping too much, but i'm pretty decent at slamming through the gears.

It may sound like you're revving high but you really aren't. I think the stock limiter is something along the lines of 6K revs. Most tuners extend it to 6.5K

I could be wrong but I think the redline is set at 6250rpm. The one time I hit it the tach was bouncing so much it was hard to tell how high it was going

its revving high to me, since i'm used to my stock 5.0. i wouldnt have that thing past 5k because it just fell on its face after that. i know these engines are supposed to rev high, just i am not used to it at all haha.

i would like to get a tuner, but the problem is i don't want to void my warranty.

Sorry to me high is the S2K's 9.7K redline but yeah it's a matter of perspective

Get a shift light if you don't want to look at the tach, it wouldn't void your warranty.

i plan on it, just still not sure where to shift. i dont beat on the car that often, and when i do, i dont plan on bouncing off the limiter, but i feel i'm short shifting it

hah damn i didnt realize how high they rev. thats like the rx8s.

yeah i guess i'm just used to a very short powerband.

slowly getting used to this cars power. everyone says my cars so fast, once i learn how to drive it it should be that much faster.

Ditto...what RPMs are you guys shifting at for max acceleration?

Does anyone know where I can find a graph of the engine's horsepower/torque per RPMs?

Lastly, bouncing off the limiter is very unsettling (as is the traction control at times)...I mean, wouldn't it be more effective to have a warning chime before the instant cuttoff so you could shift or back off the throttle? I 'think' it's at 6K but I'm not sure since I prefer to keep my eyes on the road when driving at high speed

i kinda like the idea of the chime, they have one on the gt500s as a shift light/chime, wonder if you could fit one directly onto a gt, not sure where it goes or anything so it may be impossible.

the only problem is if the chime isn't programmable, it'll start chiming when your near stock redline, alot of people with modifications bump their rev limiter up more it seems.

this things not like my old 5.0, after a certain rpm that thing would fall flat on its face, these just seem to keep pulling to the red area.

edit, found the gt500 shift light, its sweet, but it wouldn't work without the svt cluster it seems

EXACTLY!!! I'm used to 5.0L's and I have a hard time shifting without looking at the tach!

As mentioned in another thread today, the new Mustangs are deceptively fast too...since the torque and HP are so flat through the RPM range you don't realize you're haulin' @ss until you're WAY past legal speeds

What sucks is that the GT has a shift light but Ford never did anything with it.

Correct, if sunlight or the glow from the gauges catches your tach just right you'll see a small shift icon right in the center below the needle. It's there just not used.

I believe stock rev limiter is around 6250 as well...I shift at 6200 as where I would shift at 5200 in my old 89 and my current 95. It took me some getting used to as well since this is the first modular I have ever drivin let alone raced. I just got an xcal 3 with a vmp tune and he bumped my rev limiter to 6500 so i'll try shifting at 6300-6400 and see what happens. I've heard of people shifting as high as 6700 but that's not necessary IMO.

i cant see shifting this car at 67 without heavy mods.

thats right around where i shifted with my old 94. built tranny and rear i only powershifted it, so revs came up a little bit inbetween shifts.

i used to drive my parents town car, with a sohc 4.6, the car that got me into hot rodding.

me making a left turn at a 4 way intersection with the light green for a couple seconds, and a guy ran the redlight on the one side he had, pedal to the floor while turning, first little powerslide. moment that started it for me.

i knew my 5.0 very well, how fast i was going judging by the sound of the motor and how the car felt and all, with this thing i catch myself speeding not trying to just by how these cars handle.

I did the same thing when I first bought it...you'll get used to it. Good luck with the car, how do you like the 4.10's BTW...around town and highway driving?

i like them alot. i think its the perfect gear for the car. i know some people may complain about how short first gear is, but i think its fine. i can still take off in first in the rain with no wheel spin and not bog down it just takes some getting used to.

on the highway, its revved decently high keeping up with traffic. but when i stayed at 65 with the cruise on, windows down, i reset the meter and drove about 20 something miles and the whole time it was averaging right around 26 mpg. and then with windows up and air on, you don't really hear the car much with pretty stock exhaust, not sure how the headers effected the quietness of the car.

definitely going to need a drag radial or slick of sorts though for track duty.

constant stop and go traffic i can see first gear sucking horribly though.

i don't think the car would be as fun with the stock 3.31s.
