I'm rebuilding my engine again soon, and I hope to re-use the stock rods. They have about 160,000 on them, I don't plan on any forced induction. When I had them out last time they checked out ok, but I'm adding a lot more parts in the performance department (cyl. heads, and some other little bolt ons), so just wondering if it will be safe to re-use them once again??? Thanks.

By the time you get them magnufluxed, x-rayed, install ARP bolts and get them resized its not too far of a jump to a new set of forged I-beams. Hard to argue with todays prices.

yeah i paid $300 for my eagle forged steel i-beam rods 3 years ago. i was gonna get the h-beam but they were $500 and my engine builder said i didnt need them.

I guess I will look into getting new rods but as far as someone on a budget... would it be the worst thing in the world to re-use them???

No it would'nt be the worst thing in the world at all. As long as they are in good shape. Good bearings and good fasteners, they can handle decent power levels.

I reused mine with as well...had them checked out, resized, and went with ARP hardware and they have held up fine so far. I have heard that the stock rods can handle just as much power as the stock block...so i dont see any reason to spend 300 bucks on forged rods when the stock block wont come close to supporting the power that the forged rods can handle. good luck man

I reused mine, had them resized with arp bolts, and I have h/c/i and beat it when I drive it. No problems Don't expect any!
