Stock Tach stuck at 4k

I have a 91 5.0 vert and when you turn on the ignition the tach goes up to 4k. Whne you crank the car it stays up there as well(the car idles normal though). If you rev it the needle goes up to about 5k and that's it. Please help. Do I need to replace the tach?

Take the tach out and re-solder all the connections on the circuit board on the back. It fixed mine that was doing the same thing.
