I remeber a few years back one of the shade tree mechanics tricks was to slightly enlarge the pilot hole in the throttle body blade to smooth out idle issues. Does anyone remember what size bit was used? It seems to be slipping my memory right now?

well, i'm sure it's slightly bigger than the current hole, but not by much, that's for sure! It would probably idle a little lean too, wouldn't it?

no it would not, it will idle a little higher since more air would be coming in faster as well as the other air already going through the IAC

That is a jury rigged way to fix idle problems.

no it isn't, many aftermarket TB's don't even have these holes and need to be drilled.

No, it's not a "Jerry Rig" method of doing it. It's a fine tune method. The stock pilot hole is fine for a bone stock car, but once incoming and outgoing air characteristics change, the need for more air sometimes arises. Trying to control it with just the idle screw tends to be finicky and erratic as far as trying to get that "little bit more" without going overboard or that little bit less with the risk of the throttle blade sticking. The idea behind the enlargement of the hole is to allow just a hair more air in, w/o having to increase idle speed or alter TPS position too much.

I just couldn’t remember the recommended size that was used. I guess I’ll just pull out the numbered drill bit set and take it one step at a time.
