Why not just get some good zinc washed rotors and be done with it. I've had some on for a year of DD and not a speck of rust anywhere. None on the edges, wheel mounting face, nothing.

Modular2V- WTF?? the oil soaks into the pad material and even if dried, WILL come out when the brakes get hot, causing your pads to not grip very well..why do you think a new set of pads will be JUNK if you spill brake fluid on them...brake fluid does the same thing as oil to pads, soaks in and comes out when you need your brakes the most...just a bad idea, wrecking a 4,000 dollar car over some junk 50.00 brakes is just dumb IMO

first of all, it would take mulitple applications of oil/silcon spray to ruin the pads. Second, pads are not that expensive. Third, Im an ASE certified in brakes and i have seen grease on rotors that burns off by the time the car is done backing out of the shop/driveway. Lastly, silicone spray is not going to total out a car after one application! Just b4 anyone starts in, NO im not promoting just throwing greas all over your rotors for recreation..... but for storage, it is not going hurt

Except the area the pad sweeps over has the zinc coating wiped off by the pad when the brakes are applied...so when the car sits for a while, this area will rust up.

But then the next time you use your brakes it wipes it clean within a few miles.

If you're going to paint the rotors, why not just keep them off the car and put them back in the spring? Place a couple of bricks behind the tires and be done with it.

That's a hood idea.

Put the car up on cinder blocks, take the wheels off to save the tires, take the rotors off and bolt the calipers back on.

That would work for the rear rotors, Up front, coat the spindle with high-temp grease all over and then place a bag over it and tape it up nicely.

Coat the rotors in a rust preventative and store them in a box with some of that dissacant salt to absorb any moisture (which isn't much in the winter)

This is all an awful lot of work, when he could just take off the tires and backing plates and rattlecan spraypaint the whole thing... maybe 8 bucks and 2 minutes a corner?

just let them rust, it wont hurt anything. it will be surface rust and once u hit the brake it will knock it all off.

I know it's a lot of work.

I wouldn't even go that far. Like i said before...my car's been stored 2 years and the rotors are still fine...although lightly rusted over.

iam with this guy . or in the spring you could pop the rotors off and go at em with some wd 40 and a scotch brite pad

A company called Wurth makes a product called Sabesto SBS Brake Treatment and its designed to stop brake squeal. Its a gray spray on material that coats the rotor and its what we use at our dealership for the vehicles that sit on the lot. Its thick enough to keep out the elements, doesnt just wash away and doesnt affect the braking system at all as its designed to stop minor squealing.

Park it on a tarp and forget about it, what little rust that builds up will be gone the first few tims you hit the brakes!
