Strange Noise

I have been trying to find the cause of this noise for about a year. It happens somewhere near the front left tire. When I hit bumps in the road it rattles, like metal on metal rattling. When I push on the brakes it goes away. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I've been getting that kind of noise in the same area, but it didn't seem to be related to braking. It hasn't gotten worse so I haven't looked into it yet. Have you checked the brake caliper and bracket, to see if they happen to be loose?

Everything seems to be tight as far as I can tell.

I had the noise for awhile then I changed my brake pads, it went away for awhile and one day it came back. It has to be something with the brakes, but I just cannot put my finger on it.

It is really annoying and I feel like a turd driving around with that loud rattling coming from my car. I need to just pull it all apart and check everything I guess. I do not want to bring it to a shop, they always cost so much and they might not even fix it.

Hmmm, you have me thinking now. I had the problem appear after I replaced my front control arms with the 03 Cobra arms. Of course, this involved a complete disassembly of the front suspension. Now, there is a metal piece in the front caliper that's supposed to keep the front pads from moving in the caliper. The metal is thin and wears out after a while. I wonder if the brake pads are rattling in the caliper?

A bit of web research leads me to think that this is the problem. I recommend changing the anti-rattle clips on your front brakes. (EDIT: part numbers were wrong, now they're right)

I'm going to see if the rattle goes away when I apply my brakes...I sincerely hope so. I want to fix this rattle!

Cool, I had heard something about those clips a while ago on here. I may have to try the same thing. Thanks. Let me know how it goes. I will prolly not get to it for about a week since I am doing an AODE to T5 swap at the moment.

My car used to do the same thing. I was able to grab the caliper and shake it a tad.
I replaced the shims on the brake bads and the rattling went away.

Then I sold a pair of 03 calipers to blackened302 and when he got them on, they did the exact same thing.
A swap of the shims also cured his ailments.
