well,

The previous owner said it was a 69 block with a roller cam in it. I get underneath the car and the engine block is stamped E7TE. That designates it as a late model roller block as far as I know. Well, I pull the intake off today....Usually there is an XXX stamped in the oil valley of these late model blocks. This one is stamped simply.... 5.0

There was no spyder, no roller lifters, and no dog bones. Im sure there is a roller cam in there because it is indeed a roller block and the seller went out of his way to tell me it had a roller cam.

My question is....I have never seen an E7TE block that has not been stamped XXX. Has anyone else?

The block could be set up for a roller, but not have one installed. If you tried to run the roller lifters with no dog bones, the lifters would be destroyed in a very short amount of time.

Is it possible to run a roller cam without roller lifters though?

Thats what im leaning towards.

No, but a flat tappet cam can be run in roller cam block. You have a late 80's block. All 5.0 blocks are the same in the late 80's. Have you mesured the pushrods? Roller cam push rods a significantly shorter than flat tappet pushrods. That's a simple trick to ID an engine as having a roller cam.

i will measure the pushrods when i get home. However, seeing that there is no spyder, and no dogbones, I doubt that there is a roller cam. I sill measure and post my findings when i get home.

On the flip side, everything looks new under the covers and in the oil valley. All of the gaskets have been replaced, there is no gunky oil or burnt oil clumps anywhere. So, thats good news.
