Hey guys and girls. I finally have some cash to play with for my mustang. Not enough for a blower though. I was going to do a really good nitrous settup, but insurance policy wont allow it and I don't feel like losing the house if I get in a wreck. So it looks like N/A is the way to go. I am going to the shop in about an hour but want to know a few things:
VT stage 2 cams: Good, streetable cams? I don't care about emissions.
Can I use them with stock exhaust manifolds? Will be using O/R xp pipe and aftermarket exhaust. I will also be using bored t/b and plenum. I would also get some aftermarket springs as well when I do the cam install. So pretty much-are these things streetable? Thanks!

I have no personal experiance with these but have asked the same question to "vtengines" here on stangnet and he guarenteed me these were the ones to get if you wanna streetable beast. VT seems to be on its way up real fast, i'm lookin for the blower cams cuz i decided to just say screw the warranty after trying to get every dealer close to me to do aftermarket mods and keep my warranty with no luck. Good luck and hopefully someone from VT will chime in soon

How much are you looking to spend? If you are spending more than 2000 keep your $ and get another 2k and get a supercharger. Patience is a virtue

Insurance insurance insurance. I live in NC where it is already VERY high. I'm not going to tell you my age, but I get ravaged by it. If I put a blower on and get in a fender bender-the insurance company wont honor me or probably drop me. It's pretty bad. I am doing a lot of other things to the car that could help a blower out too. I'm starting on a full exhaust (ordered the slp today ). I am also starting on the engine. Got the C&L plenum today, and will get the 75mm Throttlebody later on this week hopefully. So these mods are going to help me now, but in the future if I want a blower. All except the cams. But then again-I don't think I can handle 450 rwhp.

Thats a bunch of crap i've never heard of an insurance company not honoring a claim because of a vehicle modification. If they aren't covering the modifications then what is the problem? Honestly i've never heard of something so rediculous.

I also can garantee that it would never hold up in court either and you would end up getting payment for your vehicle if you wrecked your vehicle.

With nitrous? Ok, so a fender bender was a crappy example. But what if I hurt someone on the highway. They could say I was using nitrous and nitrous wasn't in the policy. I am pretty much screwed there. Either way I'm going the N/A route (for now). I might get nitrous in the future though. Probably after I get done with my bolt-on's.
Also, since VT stage 2 cams require valve springs... And those require an ass load of labor, should the VT stage ones be fine without springs? Also, they will still have the lopiness to the idle as well, right?

So your just using supposition to determine what your insurance would do? I find it highly unlikely they are going to turn down a claim based on modifications to a vehicle like a mustang.

Eh, I'll look into it some more, but I am going to do some more mods before it. Thanks though. Anyone know the answer to my stage one cam quetion though?

The stage1's will work fine with your stock valve springs. They make good power for a daily driver, and helped propel the FIRST n/a stock longblock 2V into the 11's (Bill Putnam). They are not an aggressive idling camshaft, only a mild lope. If you're looking for a choppy, hard hitting idle, then the stage2's is where you'd want to be.

do the stage 1s make good power on a supercharged application? I am wondering what happens if you decide to change your plans and go from N/A to forced induction but don't have the money to change to blower cams

If you anticipate going with forced induction, then get a blower cam from the beginning. An n/a cam will not work well with a blower. However, a blower friendly cam will work okay in n/a form. Don't spend money twice, when picking a camshaft profile, think about the LONG term goals for the car, and spend your money wisely.

Do Stage 2's make good power to justify switching out the springs? Lopy idle? Long term for me is cams... Doing all the mods to support it right now. What would be better for cams. 70mm Tb or 75mm, or does it even matter?

TB sizing will be dependant on how aggressive the whole entire engine package is. If you're running a stock intake with stock unported heads, then the 70mm will be fine. However, if it's a high rpm, racier motor, then you'd want to step up to the 75mm. Remember, bigger isn't always better. You always have to look at the big picture to ensure you get what's right for your application.

I would probably be running stock heads simply because of financial issues. Even though I would like a high revving motor, I don't have the cash for forged internals or a new crank. I guess I am getting a tad bit over my head with getting stage 2's and valve springs and all. Heres what I currently have done:
K/N, 70mm tb, C&L plenum, catback exhaust.
I plan on getting headers and an X pipe, as well as pullies and the C&L inlet pipe. That allows more air in and more air out-which is good for cams-right? After I finish those I will probably get cams... Of course which ones to get. Daily driver with messing around with it on weekends and track occasionally.

if you all don't mind i would like to ask a quick question for VT. are your n/a cams nitrous freindly, or do you have a different grind all together for them i'm most likely going to add a n2o system soon & i was wanting cams as well, so if you could point me in the right direction i'd appreciate it

Im no expert (but you guys figured that out already ) but I think the cams will help nitrous-at least from what I've read. At the least, this is a bump for C2see

For a nitrous application, our stage2 cams would work great. The thing people don't realize with spray, is that you should always choose a camshaft that will make peak n/a power, then spray on top of that. The only time you need a nitrous specific camshaft grind is when you run a 2 or 3 stage system, and are hitting it with 300-500Hp shots. You'll gain MORE from building your motor for peak n/a power, then spraying it, then by installing a nitrous grind for only a 100-200 shot. It will work good on the spray with the nitrous grind, but on the motor it'll be a dog. Know what I mean?
