just saw this months mustangs and fast fords with the 05 on the cover, says you will have to wait for the 18 in rims. anyone know if the stripe package seen at the auto show and in most of the other rags is going to be available? those stripes just look awesome.

thanks

Save up for a Cobra or go see your favorite paint shop if you want the stripes.

I love racing stripes too. Maybe Ford will offer them as an appearance package for the GT or the V6 Mustangs in 2005-2006.

If you really like them, you will probably be happier if you are the only person who has them. Painted looks good but vinyl stickers will peel off if you change your mind.

I would have to see how the painted looks like from the sticker stripes. I think that the painted stripes would be harder to put on the car than the sticker stripes.

Paint stripes shouldn't be harder to do for Ford, supposedly they have a method of painting multiple colors at once. Which would also lead me to assume that in a perfect world, painted stripes wouldn't cost more. Like that will ever happen.

I just hope that Ford will have some type of stripe option package for the new GT and V6 Mustang in 2005 or 2006+. I would love to own a Mustang with the stripes on it. It looks really nice.

I've already spoken to my buddy that owns a body shop... gave him a heads up he maybe doing some stripes for me if it isn't offered from the factory. The Vinyl would be a good idea too for those that are on the fence. I've always admired racing stripes. IMHO, only a few cars in the world would look right with them... the Mustang being at the top of that short list. I'd definitely want them painted on though.

Would your bodyshop have to sand off the current factory paint in the areas where they would paint on the stripes? Or would they just paint the stripes over the existing factory color paint? I would like to know the procedure for this.

In the most recent Motor Trend with the '05 on the cover the article states "The racy, hunkering fastback on these pages is a production spec 2005 GT,wearing only subtle skunk stripes and slightly beefier rolling stock to dress it up for the autoshow circuit."So to sum it up,the stripes will NOT be an option.

They could do it without sanding. If, on the other hand, you didn't want the stripes to peel off...

MM&FF artical was a good one one the 05, has me thinking i want one (like there is money layin around for that...lol). If you read the artical it says the lack of scoops side vents and spoilers is very evident. If you turn to page 167 in the mag. there is an add with a pic of an 05. Not only does it have scoops and side vents but the grill/headlight/parkinglight has subtle changes. Also the roof line seems to have "windows", different seats and the C pillar area is filled in verses glass.

Was this maybe a early prototype pic or a artist rendering from spy photos? Definately different from production 05....what do you all think, i emailed MM&FF so i may get an answer, but curious as to which one you like better...scooped and side vent or not

to do it properly, they would need to sand the area where you want the stripes. They need to do this to basically make the paint on the car already become the primer. They might actually add some extra primer just to ensure the new paint sticks. Once the stripes are painted, they would then do some detailing to blend it in... then reapply new clearcoat to shine her up & ensure anamel like finish ...also to serve as a protectant. Adding stripes shouldnt be too bad in terms of cost. Its not like you're respraying the car... like you would need to do when retouching those Mustangs with the chameloen paint.

My cousin is an auto body guy. He lives in Kentucky. He paints stripes on cars. Also, does some bada$$ flames.

200.00 buys a set of painted stripes. Includes the masking, prep of the existing paint (removing clear coat and roughing up the existing paint), a base coat for the stripes, and a clear coat. If anyone wants his number just let me know. He is around the KY/OH border near Ashland, KY.

That IS a really good price. I am thinking of getting stripes put on both of my Mustangs to match the racing stripes on my underwear.
