Stripes installed, but .......

Sorry to hear about all your mess/frustration with the stripes. That install guy should have told you he'd not done many full length stripes, but I believe that fell under your impression of the reputable shop to begin with. I'd say the shop remove the stripes for free and possibly help with the purchase of a new set(if not all of it) and install them yourself(with your dad's help ). Take lots of time to prep the car and the same for install and you will do just fine. A second pair of hands will do wonders!

That really sucks man, I've been in spots like this before, thankfully not that often.

Anyways I'd keep on them and make sure to catch the manager, if they balk at doing the right thing, fire up a letter to the BBB and make sure to bring them a copy before you send it in saying this is on it's way to the BBB if you don't take care of this. I'd also get a second opinion from another striping shop in town though don't mention where this work was done, just ask about the installation and if what was done was correct. Many businesses if they are interested in your business will do up a letter to that effect. I've done that before when I owned a computer store and looked at a guy's system that was assembled as a borderline fire hazard by a fly by night firm in my previous town.

I am going to go in tomorrow to discuss things with him. Now, the stupid part: I forgot to ask about re-imbursement for the stripes or if they were going to install their own stripes or what. stripes

I have the BSM 12" stripes & was really impressed with fit & finish. My installer said it was the easiest kit He had installed, even the dreaded bumpers. Installation instructions are on the website. www.baltimorestreetmods.com.

First thing, how much where the stripes and what did they charge for the install?

For future reference:
For this kind of work or any work on your car, I would have done one of three things:

1. I would have the shop order the product you want and install it. If they won’t order a specific brand, ask what will they order and will it be sufficient for you? I would have them tell me specifically what I can expect from them as a finished product (I would make sure I had it in writing). This will limit your liability as a consumer. Always pay for parts, work and services with a credit card (This helps in the dispute process if there is a problem)! I would want to know if they have done this type of work before and if they have, do they have any pictures of the work (pictures would be for appearance work). If they can’t or won’t do that, find a different shop.

2. Buy the product yourself (like you did) and have the shop verify that they can install it properly. Always review the installation procedure from the manufacture so you know what to expect from that particular product. Inventory what you get and verify what your expectations are with the shop installing the product. Get them to tell you what liability they will take before the work starts! Get it in writing! Make sure that it is clear that if there is a problem to let you know ASAP. Again, as in #1, pay with a credit card and ask if they have done it before (always verify or get them to guarantee 100% satisfaction).

3. Buy the product yourself (like you did) and install it yourself. Here you take the liability but you have the peace of mind that any screw up is yours. In this case, it is difficult to get a refund for a defective product (e.g. stripes, electronics, ect.).

As always protect yourself, get it in writing and pay with a credit card. If you have a problem, don’t wait to dispute the charges (never wait more than 2 weeks). Don’t let them string it out. Remember, you truly get what you pay for!

In this case, they should redo the work right or restore the car back to the condition it was in when you brought it in (they should also replace your strip kit).
