STROKE IT OR NOT????

Ok, so i have the motor tore down and the heads are off getting pressure checked and cleaned up etc etc. so i was thinking while its tore down should i take the 82000 mile lower end and have it stroked?? if so what could i expect to pay and what kind of cam should i use after with the afr165'6, 1.72 rockers holley upper and lower and my other mods? what kind of power could i expect?? i think if i stroked it i would do the 331 since there is so much hype about the 347 this will be a normal driver.... im not trying to drag but i would like to tear up those vettes hahaha im sure all of you can relate!!! with that said let the opinions roll in! :nice:

you'll be looking at a couple thousand dollars when its all said and done. and that's if you assemble it yourself. I think it more comes down to what your budget is, not whether you should do it or not. Of course you should do it! the real question is can you afford it....

thats odd, no one has any input???

Not sure about the power output but I am currently building a 331 for my cobra. I would like to utilize as much off my car as possible but I would like 300-350 rwhp. I plan on getting windsor sr heads, port matching cobra lower to heads, Using my Cobra upper intake. I have an brand new e cam but curious on the crane smog legal cams on how they would be with the combo I'm doing. I would love to get a blower but turns out I ordered my pistons already. I'm using probe forged pistons that would give me a compression ratio of around 9.5:1 with the windsor sr heads. I went 331 because of the 347 talk to. Guys on here swear by them saying there is nothing wrong with a 347 as there may not be but I feel better staying with a better rod ratio with less wear on the cylinder walls and rings. What kind of power were you looking at with your old setup with those AFR 165 and holley intakes?

did you ever join southfloridastangs. get in touch with ronnie wilson at specialties machining. they are located in pompano. 20% off to all members. i priced it out and it came to $700 for machining the block and assebling it. thats $560 after discount. you could pick up a stroker kit for about a $1000.

If you can afford it, do it. The 165's will be on the small side for a 331/347 but it should still make a good bit over 300rwhp with that intake and a matching cam. If you are set with those heads and will not be changing them, then I'd do a 331, if you think you'll put larger heads on someday then a 347 would be the way I'd go.

I wouldnt take my motor or car to mustang specialties if they were the last shop in town. I rather burn it while I smoke a cigar and piss on the remains. they are a piece of work and have you ever heard of you get what you paid for. I have 2500 into machinging and assembly you cant tell me they are gonna do the same work for 500 bucks. Screw them and the horse they rode in on.

Sorry for the rant :OT:

Yeah stroke that. Nothing like stroking it.Maybe getting blown works too.

Just what did you have done for $2500? Seems like both ends of the spectrum here.

No I went to a different shop. I had gone to MS for something totally sep years ago when I didnt know any better and they raped me.

Well for about 2800 I got as follows:

bore
plate hone
parrallel deck
aling hone
stroker notch
balance
wash and assemble
valve job and resurface heads
installed heads
time cam
piston to valve clearance
resize rods
r and r guides
new guides
new springs
retainers
oil & filter and prime
port lower intake and match to heads.

So there you go thats what 2800 gets you.....:dead:

$2800 is STEEP for all of that work. You can buy an assembled short block from a reputable shop for that price. Hell, that's half way to an ASSEMBLED dart based shortblock.

S.A.C.- contact http://www.rnhperformance.net Rick is a top notch engine builder that can set you up with a complete package that addresses all of your needs and concerns. I just had him build my dart based shortblock and it was the best decision I could have made.

i figured since you were not talking good about them you were not getting the machine work there. i was just asking who you were dealing with when you were there in the past. thats alot of work your getting done. i was talking machining and assembly for just the shortblock:)

Well to be Fair that does include dual coil springs and guides and retainers oil and filter. with assembly and blueprinting from oil pan to lower intake with porting inbetween.

so if you Add up the rotating assembly in there its about what you would get by buying a Level20 dss shortblock and I would have still need to do my heads intake and assemble it.

BTW I think I dealt with Tim @MS but I know Ronnie too he isnt bad but he is associated with them. Guilty by association.....
