Would you guys recommend DSS Racing or Coast High Performance for a stroker kit? Each have given me there best rotating assembly combo's for a '69 351w stroker which is listed below. This will be for a street stang using AFR 185 61cc cylinder heads and a Eldebrock RPM intake. All parts are made by these companies. Please let me know if you have used these guys before. Thanks.

DSS: (408 Stroker Kit)

ProLite Forged Pistons (18cc Dish at 10.5:1 compression)
Cast Steel Crank (4.00 stroke)
Forged I-Beam Rods

CHP: (393 Stroker Kit)

Probe Sportman Race Forged Pistons Ultralights (15cc Dish at 10.1:1 comp)
Cast Steel Crank (3.850 stroke)
Forged I-Beam Rods

I have heard bad rumors for strokers over 400 CI as far a rod/ratio. Don't take that for gospel by any means though. I've never built one but from what I have read I would go with a CHP kit if you wanted a 374 because of their offset wrist pin. But since you ain't. I would go with the DSS. I have just seen way too many guys go FAST, dude I mean to say FAST with their kits. The proofs in the pudding my man.

I'm not sure if that's a good apples to apples comparison 10sec. But my .02 probably isn't much better. For what it's worth, in the past (and this is the past) I've heard more bad things about DSS than CHP. Haven't used either one, but if I were, I'd go with CHP. Plus, for $200 more than the DSS kit, you can get a forged crank. But why didn't you choose a CHP 408? They're the same price as DSS though.

If I remember right when I was researching strokers, CHP is the only company that offers a warranty on their engines! It is a small added cost and you don't have to ship the engine back: they will give you a local shop and if the defect is their fault, they will pay the shop to fix it. They will even offer this on Ford Racing engines that they sell; hell, even Ford won't guarantee them!

Yeah I know it was apples to oranges, but I was only saying I would only go for CHP for their 347 kit/motor. No other reason. When I called CHP they were very short, didn't care... I've read horror stories here man. I think the story was something like, they made this motor for a guy with high compression pistons...too high and he had to use race gas. and even though they admitted it, they wouldn't fix it.
Nothing bad about DSS, just the motor over 400 ci. That's all.

That's the mistake Speedomotive made with my stroker.

I have a CHP 347. They did just shy of a shortblock for me and I did the rest. I received excellent customer service both before and after my purchase. I have also been to their shop on a few occasions and can say it is a well kept facility (been to both their old shop and the newer one). I have over 15k hard miles on my motor with no issues what so ever.

Don't know anything first hand about DSS, but haven't heard anything bad about them.

There are alot more companys' out there that have very good reps as far as strokers go I have personally dealt with Kuntz and Co. in Arkansas and as far as stroker engines go you can not beat this shop or there reputation all you have to do is go to the track and ask about them. Another shop is Keith Craft also very reputable. Bolth have there share of record holders in all types of racing. If you are trying to save money on your combo dont you get what you pay for! Good luck!

Maybe I will just go with a Scat crank and rods and buy the Probe pistons from CHP. I am having a hard time finding pistons for my '69 351w 9.485 deck. The AFR's are 61cc. I am trying to stay around 9.5 or 10 on the compression. It looks like they will need to be custom made.

Good plan. The last stroker I got from coast for a 69 windsor block, they hosed. Pistons were for the later taller deck hight windsor, so were main bearings,(tab on the wrong side), and after specifically requesting a Scat crank, they included an RPM model. .020 off the tops of the pistons to get them back in the holes, and 2 slugs of malloy for crank balance later......$$
The set of Total Seal rings they sent gapped ALL OVER THE PLACE. They reluctantly accepted the returned rings. Got a set at the speed shop, and they were all within .002.
I'm done with CHP.

409 cubes, 500+ hp, and 147k miles . . . Kuntz and Co. in Arkansas :D

Actually, they did the stroker kit, but I had an ace builder in Tennessee do the rest.

There's NOTHING wrong with the 409 kit as far as longevity and reliability.

A guy here at work got the CHP 427, and they gave him the run-around several times about various things. The worst was that he had to wait a couple of months till they got some forged cranks.

GOOD LUCK!!

I went with D&Dmotorsports. Forged crank, H-beam rods, and forged pistons. Have not recieved the motor yet (went with long block) but they have been very friendly and helpful on email and telephone so far.
