Stroker??

motor comes out saturday then i start drivetrain mods. I've been putting alot of thought into getting a stroker kit for it, looking at making it a 331 :shrug: CHP seems to be the route im looking at taking however i've got some rookie questions to follow this... my motor is already bored .030 over... do most stroker kits accomedate for being bored or will i have to find different pistons (or use pistons in there now)?? If the pistons that are in there now sacrifice some stroke (to big) where could i find new pistons for the bored cylinders?? I know that it wouldn't be a 331 exactly with different pistons... you get the idea
 
You might have to have your cylinders honed and/or bored to .040 over if the .030 job has many miles on it. If you go for a Stroke kit, you won’t be able to use your stock pistons or rods. If you go .040 over you wont be able to use the pistons anyway.

Best bet is to check with CHP, or Eagle and let them know what you have in mind and ask them to recommend a kit. Keep in mind if you want to use your stock heads, they’re going to increase your compression ratio due to the longer stroke, which may cause detonation. In which case, you need to let the kit co. know what heads you plan to run so they can set you up with the right CR pistons (don’t know why you’d want to run stock heads on a Stroker though).

I've done more than one stroker small block and you will definitely be money ahead by having one of the big stroker companies build you a shortblock. Forget the stroker kit concept.

That said, if you want total control of how the engine is built, going with a reputible builder in your area that will give you a shortblock warranty that can be easily fulfilled, go Scat...they have awesome parts and you can grab pistons from one of the stroker companies. Regardless, have the builder source the parts for you (whether it's a stroker builder or a local builder).
