stroking a 351w to 408

I am looking at building a 408w. at first i thought about just buying a shortblock from a known vendor but i am the kind of person that likes to do things on their own. on my last short block i had help from my brother in law which made things a whole lot smoother. it was a 351w stroked to like 380 (old style stroker with off-set ground crank) but i think that it is time to upgrade.

i have my eye set on a 408. my brother in law says to just buy one. I was looking and pricing some parts and if i buy parts and do it myself then it will save me some cash and give me that experience of doing it. the questions i have are about "absolute must-do's" when building a 408w. most people i have talked to say that the most important thing is to notch the block to provide clearance for the rod caps/bolts.


the bore will be 4.03 with a 4 inch stroke 9.5 deck. it will have Victor jr Heads with a Victor jr intake


Is there anything else that must be done?

"machine work"--that is what i am trying to get at....

i already have a block that has the bore...but what else am i looking at?

Eagle Rotating assembly from summit 1,200 roughly...so does that mean just notch the block to clear the rod caps/bolts and put it together....??

i have priced some shortblocks...$3,xxx will get a "seasoned stock block"(what is that) with an eagle rotating assembly...

just thinking i could save some money to use elsewhere on the car.

there are 2 users mentioned in this thread that have done this before....how do find them ask them to read this thread? or if someone can, will you post this link to them...
