when i look on tirerack for replacement stuts for my bullitt i have very few options, but when i search for just a gt there are more choices...is this because they are just telling me which struts are comparable to the performance ones that came on the car, i.e. the tokicos, or will the other struts literally not mount up? i dont think my car is that special or anything so i assume im correct in my assumption that they are just giving me performance oriented choices to replace the stockers with, and not that the cheaper ones would not work period.

I just installed Mach 1 struts and shocks, which some say are like the Bullitt struts and shocks, on my GT. They mount exactly the same but the Mach struts (tokicos) are thicker than the GT originals and the rear are much stiffer. Install is not a problem. Fits the same.

Just purchase for a GT and you'll be fine. Go with bilstein's. Besides Koni's or Tokico D-spec/illuminas, they are the only ones you will get a really noticable difference from.

If you get any performance replacement, all 94-04 fronts are the same fit. Due to the different springs, shocks, and sway bars, most places won't use a standard GT strut replacement as it'll ride very strange.

The Bilstein monotubes are about the best replacement for the front, which can be found aftermakret or from Ford (03-04 Cobra coupe front struts).
