Stuck cross-pin bolt on axle... how to remove?

So I went to the junkyard to grab a pair of driver side Ranger axles to use for my 5 lug conversion... With the first axle I grabbed, the bolt holding the cross pin in place came free no problem, but I've tried 2 other trucks and couldn't get that bolt loose on either. I've tried vise-grips which keep slipping off, and a 5/16" wrench, which I thought was correct, but maybe it is a different size? There's no room to get a socket onto the bolt. Any ideas how I can get this thing to come loose?

Other than getting at the cross pin bolt, removing axleshafts on an 8.8 is stupidly easy... I had the first one out in under 10 minutes...

I use a 5/16 6 point wrench. Have not found one that has given me a problem yet. 8mm is .002 larger which is pretty much the same. Some of them have loctite on them so you may need a little heat.
