Hey, I'm kind of new to cars and I have a few questions about engines in general.

On the valve covers how is there a place to fill the engine with oil? Aren't the rockers and valves right there? Does the oil go through them to the oil pan?
Also what are lifters? Are they like rockers like the camshaft turns them and they in turn lift the pushrods? What do they look like?

Thanks guys

Correct again
Also what are lifters?

Just like it sounds they're small cylinder shaped peices that ride on a camshaft lobe that inturn "lift" the push rods
Are they like rockers like the camshaft turns them and they in turn lift the pushrods?

Correct
What do they look like?

Since we're on newbie question. What determines a 5.0 engine? I know it's 5 litre but not sure what that means. I'm dead serious.

1 liters = 61.0237441 cubic inches

You basibally have to measure bore and stroke to get cubis inches, which in our case its 302 for a stock engine, then divide that by the number above which comes out to ruffly 4.95L so they just rounded up because 5.0L sounds better than 4.9L

the chevy 305/ ford 306 is technically a 5.0L

5.0 liters = 5000cc (cubic centimeters). Just the metric form of measurment, whereas 302ci = 302 cubic inches or pi*radius squared (2^2=4)*Bore (3)* # of cylinders (8) which equals 301.44.
