stupid question about ac compressor....

i was wondering....if you were to remove all the hoses, freon, etc and leave the ac compressor there....

would it just pump air in and out? if so....does anybody know how much psi they produce??

i dunno why i asked this but its just something i keep wondering

I'm not sure, but I do know that the compressor is lubricated by oil mixed in with the freon. So it may pump air, but maybe not for long...
