Stupid question about K&N

I tried searching, but couldn't come up with an answer for this question. I have a 2000 GT, and pulled the K&N air filter out for the first time to clean it (the car has ~60k miles). When I get the filter out, the foam rubber sealing rings that are positioned where the filter meets the junction of the airbox and the MAF hose are all torn up and stretched out of shape.

Can I buy new sealing rings, or do I need to get an entirely new filter?

Are you talking about the rubber piece that surrounds the filter, sits up against the maf (circular bracket part)? Is it torn or just deformed?
Yes, I'm talking about that part. There are two rings there. One facing in toward the filter, and one facing out toward the MAF. One of the rings is torn and the other is very badly deformed.

You probably need to get a new filter.

It's the direct 'drop in' replacement K&N one that you have right? I can call my brother later and see if he still has an extra one. If so, I'll just ship it to you ... I don't know if he still has it or not but I can try ...

Yeah, it's the 'drop in' filter. Damn, this sucks. I'm going to go get a cheapo paper filter to hold me over until I figure out what to do.

Thanks for the offer of shipping me an extra if you've got one.

Or you can call K&N and get a replacement for free. I had the exact same thing happen to me. I called them up, gave them the serial number off of the filter itself, gave them my address, and got a brand new filter over-nighted to me for FREE. Google K&N and you should be able to find the number to call. :nice:

Did you need the original receipt to get the replacement???

I didn't. I know on their website it says you do, but I got a tech support # and called them up, the guy asked for the serial #, then my address, and that was it. I told them what happened and they sent a new one without question. I just got the new one last spring.
