I also have a hard time dealing with the old school crowd who just don't understand how a small block can run faster than his old Hemi from back in the 60s. They think cubic inches is the end all beat all answer to going fast, and that if this car over here has a big block then it IS faster than the car over there with the 302. I have a friend just like this, and he has a 355ci S10 that runs pretty stout but he can't understand how i ran faster with a bolt on 302. He also thinks that bumping his timing 3 degrees is going to drop 2 tenths off his time. These people make every excuse in the book to make their way of thinking valid. They also can't stand or comprehend how a 4 cylinder car can be so damn fast with a turbo and are quick to trash them and say things like "oh well it's gonna blow up and won't last long" etc. I have actually hung out with a few "ricers" who were less annoying than the old hotrodder types i grew up with.

I'm selling a 86 302 block and crank, and someone sent me this message:

how are the rings on that block and what is your number all give you a call about it

Now that's impressive....

About 6 months ago a guy at auto zone told me the reason why my aod transmission is having trouble shifting is because it has a stage 3 ford racing clutch. I walked away at that point.

Magnaflow exhaust on a 2008 VW GTI is good for 40 horsepower, naturally aspirated. Turbo? 250 to the wheels. This kid says he's walked Vipers and A ZR1. He's running 22 lbs of boost on a stock bottom end.

He then proceeded to run a 14.7 quarter. No way!

I love when anyone puts "racing" in front of a generic part.

"I installed, racing tires, racing clutch, racing headers, a racing cam, and racing headlights on my Accord"

Gotta love hypocritical cops. In most situations if a Joe Shmo civilian pulled something like that, he'd be laying face down on the concrete with a uniformed knee in his back and handcuffs around his wrists.

A stock R32 runs maybe high 13s / low 14s and that puts about 200 to the wheels with AWD.
He might have run 14.7 reasonably but no way he ever beat a viper or zr1. Unless of course they didnt know they were racing him

A guy at work says he's going to make 600hp with a 383 stroker.

Here's the funny part, he thinks he can do it with stock double hump heads and valvetrain except the cam.

In his 88 long bed GMC truck with an auto, and says it's going to smoke my 68 Coupe with it's Twisted Wedge headed H/C/I 351w 5 speed, drag radials, 90/10's and all the usual drag stuff.

I just wonder how he thinks an extra 33cid is going to double his HP? I also find if funny when people think the engine is the only thing involved in a race.

My Chevy buddy thinks that because my 347 has a stroker crank that by default it's going to make more power than his 355. He says i have an unfair advantage...because i have a stroker crank. Even though it evens out the cubic inchs between us (close at least) he says that a stroker crank will always make more power than one that isn't.

So i say, well if Ford had built this engine as a 347 and not a 302, WTF would be the difference? I never get a good answer.

Its kind of crazy how many "enthusiasts" out there don't really understand engine design. Does he realize that the only fundamental difference between a 351 and a 302 is a longer stroke crank? You could almost call a 351 a stroked 302.

There is the argument of rod angularity and piston speed, but I doubt your buddy knows anything about that, haha.

'08 GTI's came factory with Turbo, 200 bhp- So exhaust, tune, and other odds and ends will put it close to that! I got rid of one two months ago. Bought and explorer(new Baby) no room.

Check out this site- rabbitownersclub.com There are some sick rides on it. It will open your eyes!!!

Ive heard that, and the 302 duration, 501 lift, 106 lsa crane cam me and a friend installed into his chevy last year was labeled as a 3/4 race cam
Maybe it just means the cam is intended for a vehicle that is driven 75% of the time at the track

I know you posted this a while ago but I have to correct it.

Just like no one laughs at the Trick Flow Stage 1, 2 and 3 cams you shouldn't laugh at the way cam makers used to classify their cams back in the day.

The 1/4 race cam was like an RV/towing cam.
The 1/2 race cam was like a stockish cam, maybe a touch more.
The 3/4 race cam is like the middle of the road performance cams that we have now.
The full race cam was just what it said. Intended for racing applications.

Isky still refers to them this way.

Various grinds are available for most all American-produced automobile engines. From the mild 3/4-race to the Super Competition, this series also offers a wide price range for the enthusiast who prefers the solid lifter cam and kit at a modest cost.

Their is a security guard running around in one of the "uptown" neighborhoods near my house that drives a ford explorer sport trac and he swears up and down that it has a supercharged 5.4 out of a GT-500 in it.

Kid up the street has a Cavalier z-24 with the usual fart can, cut springs, and "cold air intake" (dryer hose with cone filter) he came by the house cuz he seen me do a burnout in my mustang in front of my house just seconds before he pulled in my driveway. I got out and popped the hood on my car and was just checkin over everything when he walked up and asked me if it had a 4 cylinder in it??? I couldn help myself I said "yep, sure does" Then he said, "Dang 5.0 must be a pretty big 4 cylinder and he asked me if my smog pump was a turbo??? I said "nope thats a centerfugial supercharger" He said, Oh, Whats that???. I just laughed and shook my head Then he asked me if I wanted to race??? I had done had enough and I was holding back laughter to the point my hand was over my mouth and I was almost in tears. This kid had no clue!!! I said "Kid, Just get outta my driveway". I shut the hood and walked in the garage and was literally on the floor laughing when his fart on wheels drove away

My sisters boyfriend (17yrs) said that when he bought his 97 honda accord wagon(4 door, 4 cylinder). That they installed a cold air intake(Filter) and that it makes his car go faster and sounds better. That it gave him 45hp and that if it wasn't bacause he has 17 inch rims and two 15 inch woofers with a heavy box he would smoke me in my 97 mustang......
