Are you talking about the expandable insulating foam they use for houses? Are you saying to spray it between the body and the plastic trim panels in the hatch?Fill the hatch with 50% expanding foam. Tape the lock off first, and use cardboard to keep it from the foam. Lay plastic in the back of the car under the hatch, and fill away.
This will keep rattle at bay and produce clean bass, follow with boom mat under the trim panel.

No, the inside of the hatch itself. It is of course two piece design so you would be filling the space making the hatch "solid" thus reducing the harmonics produced by the airspace in the hatch itself. You asked I gave a tip, it's what we do here. I don't know if you were paying any attention, my box form fits my entire back seat. It even has the provisions for the seat belts and the clips for the top cover. It has to be removed in one piece with the top down, takes 2 people. All my amps are mounted behind the "box".
You may want to keep an open mind.
