Its a long shot but I was wondering if anyone knows of the dimensions of the hatch area of an 88 GT. Im putting a customer sub box back there and trying to measure it is a real pain.

Are you building the box or buying one premade?
A few pics of square stock laid into place then measured across from worked well for me. Or just "piece" it together from square stock and measure your box dimensions.

I just used square stock and stapled as I went along until it fit snuggly into place, then stretched fleece over the stock. Fiberglass followed the fleece.

It's nearly impossible for us to give you the dimensions you need to build a "custom" box. If you can't figure out measurements then you have no business building a custom speaker enclosure in your vehicle. That's the salty part of my post, now on to moving forward.

When you say wedge style box I start thinking about truck style boxes that are meant to be shallow and have an angled face so it can fit behind a reclined seat. Not so sure this is what you're looking for. I'd think you'd want the 10" subs to be pointed straight up at the hatch glass which should give you the deepest cleanest bass when reflected of the glass and toward the front of the car.

Are you going with a sealed box? Ports? What kind of music are you mostly playing? A Mustang hatchback should be a great sounding car with two 10" subs if you can keep the hatch door from vibrating too much.

Fill the hatch with 50% expanding foam. Tape the lock off first, and use cardboard to keep it from the foam. Lay plastic in the back of the car under the hatch, and fill away.
This will keep rattle at bay and produce clean bass, follow with boom mat under the trim panel.

Are you talking about the expandable insulating foam they use for houses? Are you saying to spray it between the body and the plastic trim panels in the hatch?

Dear lord I can get the measurements myself I was just hoping that a forum of "experts" may have had this info already available. Thank you and yes its a sealed box angling towards the glass. I do have "business" building this enclosure its not rocket science I was looking for just a small amount of advise to save me little legwork thats all. And god no, expanding foam is not coming near my car, call me an elitist but I do things the right way not the duct tape WD40 way. again thanks

So it went from "it's a real pain to get the measurements" to "I can do it, it's not rocket science"?

No, the inside of the hatch itself. It is of course two piece design so you would be filling the space making the hatch "solid" thus reducing the harmonics produced by the airspace in the hatch itself. The boom mat "sound insulating mat" would be placed behind the trim panels.

I have done this to many cars and it has always worked flawlessly, I can't stand trunk rattle. It drives me nutz.

As for the foam yes the 'great stuff' 50% works well.

The "right way" huh?
What is the "right way" ask 10 people get 10 different answers.
You asked I gave a tip, it's what we do here. I don't know if you were paying any attention, my box form fits my entire back seat. It even has the provisions for the seat belts and the clips for the top cover. It has to be removed in one piece with the top down, takes 2 people. All my amps are mounted behind the "box".
You may want to keep an open mind.

You two guys are just a couple of meanies. Dogging that guy just because he thought that we were "magic custom sub box enclosure dimension genies".

Clearly suffering from I cantgooglethisstuffmyselfitis , and random outbursts of the words "Lord, and God" followed immediately by the word "no", you should have seen the symptoms as soon as he posted his first reply. Shame on you two for not being the forum expert psychologists we're all expected to be, in addition to knowing how to measure somebodies car through a cable or DSL internet connection for a one-off custom enclosure.

Consider yourselves warned.
