Searched quite a few days for all info on here I could find and nowhere Have i seen anything like Im wondering about doing so I decided to post about it.

Im building my own subframes somewhat like this "How-To"
How-To Subframe Connectors

Only reason I do not like there way is I dont get why mount off the side of the Original frame rails where you will only be stressing it on that side.

My design im thinking about would still use 2" x 2" x 3/16" square tubing but would be like the TCP connectors and mating on the end of the front and Angled into the back.

just wondering if anyone has done anything like this or has thoughts on this being bad etc.

personally i would join them together at the ends of the subframes instead of joing them on the sides

Go with 2x1 1/4 steel tubing, like your original.1/4 is 4/16, a little thicker than 3/16. Yes you want it on the side. That will give it the most strength, not to mention you won't have any ground clearance if you stack them up front. Think of it like popsicle sticks. If you glue (weld) the thin ends together, like you are thinking, you can easliy twist them apart. Now do it side to side. Get the point ? Tha't why it's also (for the most strength) best to cut out the floorboards running to the rearframes. So you can put them side by side in the back, too. I relize many people don't want to do that, but.... Pm me if you want pics of mine.

I saw an article a couple of years ago about fabricated 2X3 tube connectors that were fit into the subframe rails from the firewall back to the forward rear leaf mounts. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

I think that was Mustang Illustrated. I have a copy somewhere.....but I doubt I'll find it in the next year. It is what I did to mine. 2x3 .090 or .120 wall tubing laid into the front framerail and cut into the rear torque box. It's semi-tricky since you have to angle the middle section two ways, and cut through the floor pan and part of the seat riser. I used to have pics somewhere. I'll look for them..

I haven't done my ragtop yet, but I think I'm going to use a double frame connector. One will go straight front to back outside the subframes and the other will cross from front left to rear right and vise versa on the inside of the subframes. Both will be 1 1/2 X 1/4 square tubing.I was going to incert 2, 1/2 inch pipes threw each of the 4 subframes and weld them in, then use a grade 8 bolt threw the 2 connectors and the subframe. I think the X-frame will make it quite a bit stronger than a pair of laterals.
