So I got this 94 convertible here, with little trunk space, and a god awful sound system. The natural thing to do is install a good one. I can't imagine hearing any decent base, while doing 60mph with the top down, if I had subs in the trunk. Then I get the idea to put two 8" subs in the lower rear spots next to the back seat, instead of in the trunk. I found 8" subs with a 3.8" mounting depth, and 500 peaks watts. Seems good enough, considering how close they'd be to my bleeding eardrums. Has anyone succesfully done this? I'm conserned about space, fabricating a new mount, and enclosing the sub. And, is it even necsesary to enclose a sub air tight, to get decent sound? As far as the rest of the system goes, I will have 3-ways in the upper rear spots, and in the doors, then mach 460 door tweeters under the a-pillars. If this project gets any more out of control, then I'll get a saleen gauge pod, put a speaker in it, and make a 5.1 system (with 2 subs). But in the meen time, where is the best place for the subs? Trunk, or inside the car?

I took my back seat out of my '94 Coupe and did his. I can also put stuff under the seat now. Its a little harder to do in a vert I think though.

In order to do that you would need to relocate the top motor.

In my 88 convert. I have two 10's in the spare tire well and a good amp and it is more than enough at any speed. I have two Rockford subs with a rockford amp. That space you are thinking of putting them into is pretty tight.... but if you do it successfully plaese put up some p[ics so I can see.
