suggestions for a limited budget???

Hello fellow 5.0 men,
I decided not to get an affordable 4.6 and keep my 1995 Ford Mustang GT. It has 115,000 and the AOD. Call me crazy but I feel I must remain loyal to the 5.0, this car has been great for the six years I have owned it. I have the money to have 3.73 gears installed. With the money thats left over should I get Flowmaster 40 series mufflers, headers, or just a K&N filter? Also, all my tires are 235-55-16. Will I have traction trouble and if yes then how careful must I drive on the freeway or in the city streets? I heard that if you punch it with the new gears the cars will move sideways, is that true? What if I drive "normal" will the tires still spin like crazy? I want to be safe but also have fun at the same time. I will not have money for bigger wheels (17X9 Cobra wheels) for many months.

You should do the gears it will give you more pep in you step :D as far as flooring it on the highway unless you have the power to break the tires lose at around 70 mph. then yes be careful. gears will help you launch harder so expect to loose traction in that aspect. Ask around some may say with an automatic you might want to consider 410's
 
In the rain you will have traction problems unless you are careful as to how hard you hit the gas. You will love the gears though, 4.10's on an AOD are the same as 3.73's on a manual. I would suggest getting the mufflers (because they will most likely sound nice on your car) plus you will get a little performance out of them. If you punch it with the gears you won't exactly move sideways... but you will move. Just don't be stupid with them. Never floor it in the rain.
 
Gears WILL be the most bang for your buck. DEFINATELY go with the 4.10's. I've got a 5-speed with 3.73's and I wish that I had 3.90's. So that's like I had 4.10's and wish that I had 4.30's if I had an automatic. It's probably worth your money to rebuild the posi clutches, and bearings, if original, are a near must. The labor charge to replace the bearings is not much more if done while the gears are being done.

Welcome! So you've had your car for six years and it's still completely stock? I'm impressed. I couldn't do that. Were you just never interested, or was money an issue (as with most of us).
Oh, and you don't need a 4.6, real men have pushrods :rlaugh:
 
All these years I never modded my car because I thought I would eventually get rid of it. But for some reason, I decided to just keep my car rather than sell this one and search the classifieds for another Ford Mustang. At least with this one I know what minor repairs it needs. This is my third car. My first was a 1982 Mercury Grand Marquis 302 V8. My second was a 1966 Ford Mustang 289 V8. I lost a lot of money on the 66 because I was in over my head. I never realized how truly expensive it was to try and fix up a classic. I learned my lesson, dont buy a classic Mustang unless you can do 90 % of the repairs yourself and get good deals on parts.
 
Suggestions for a limited budget with a 5.0 is find a different hobby. What you have entered into is never ending money pit. It will consume your life and money and all your time once you start. Just slowing back away and PM with your address so I can come pick the car up. Just turn and don't look back. Or let the madness begin.

I know what you mean, its tough to have a hobby. Its tough saving $$$ especially with rising tuition costs by the state. Why is it when California is running out of money they always pass it on to the students? Thats not right :mad: But somehow I have saved $700.00 and I will be able to make my car more enjoyable to drive :flag:
