wow what a track day. i had lots of fun and i learned that i need a better car. lol i did have another instuctor ride along with me and told him if i didnt do it perfect to tell me oh my was that a mistake so many line i would miss by a foot and he would tell me. I did my brakes durring lunck again lol not as bad this time since they blew up going in to 4 instead of 1 so i didnt need rotors this time. i had a temp gauge with me this time and the temps of the rotor after a cool down lap were over 500* the backing plate had cooled down to 490* and the caliper was 390 and yes i do have brake ducts. my second sesion after lunch the oil pump went out again no bad sounds but i did have it towed home time time instead of driving it like the last 3 times. yes this motor had now broken 4 oil pumps. i thought i might want a make it a dry sump car untill i saw the price of the pump so ill just put another one in. and im not going back to the track untill i get better brakes put on im going to try and get the 93 cobra kit for the car though my work. and the after party was pretty cool too the guys at compition motorsport thinnk i should race in A sedan when i race, which the capri in my garage would be perfect to do it.

Sounds like you had a great time, Eric! I am amazed that you can make it through any track days with the stock brake setup, cooling ducts or not .

Maybe it's time to rebuild that motor . There has to be a reason it eats oil pumps.

Track days are a blast. My stock brakes used to last 3 laps before they faded away! Better have your car really sorted out berfore you go, 20 minutes at redline is a lot different than a 12 second drag race. What weight oil are you running when you break these pumps? Are you using a hardened shaft? I run 5w30 Mobil 1 and have 70 psi when i start and 60 after a track session.

Hey Eric, here's a tip. Go to autozone and get PFC brake pads, they cost about 100 bux for the fronts and 75 for the rears but they come with a life-time warranty. Only at autozone though.

Thats because you either weren't going fast enough or are soft on the brakes. Stock brakes on my 2000GT would fade the 1st time I had to slow down from about 100-120 to 20-30mph.

If you have to slow down to 20-30 mph, then your problem is not the brakes...

well my brakes dont get soft they get hot melt away. the backing plate is melted ill show them to you if you want. i was running 5-40 pensosynth(german high grade oil) this last time i switched back to 10-30mobil 1syn. i would lose power at the top end of my rpm range when i had the lighter weight oil. the second pump+shaft i broke was a harden arp and broke that one too(lasted the shortest time). i dont had a problem with the rear brakes im an 88gt remember i got drums back there that dont do anything. and i usually am going 130 down to 45 for turn one and 135 down to about 90 for turn 10. my bmw dosent have brake problem at all and its 100lbs heavyer and an auto but it only going 110 to 45 and 110 to 90

man that sounds like alot of fun! I want to take my 88lx to SIR "pacific Raceways" one of these days and try out there track. I just did all 03 cobra brake upgrades and drilled and slotted rotor all the way around! I can't wait to see these brakes perform.

I think to myself, "Is it possible that I have been transported back in time to sixth grade?"

... then I realize the answer is apparently yes.

Faster than you and your 2000 GT, apparently . You have a pretty thin skin for someone who comes into the Northwest forum and talks shit all the time. Perhaps you should flitter over to the Northeast forum and torment the unlucky folks there instead?
