It is my understanding that a super 8.8 comes with the following ring gear ratios 3.15, 3.31, 3.55, 3.73 and 4.09.

I have been told that all these ring gears are interchangeable with the exception of the 3.15 gear. It seems that gear was used only in an earlier '04 version of the 8.8 irs from Ford and therefore has a different offset than the rest.

Does anyone know what the offset is? Has anyone ran and 3.15 gear in a super 8.8?

Thanks in advance

To my knowledge the "Super 8.8" only started coming on the 2015+ S550 cars. The IRS housing that was in the 04' and prior cars is a standard dimension 8.8 and not the super 8.8. The ring, pinion, and differential are different between these two housings and are not interchangeable.

The difference in the 3.15 geared super 8.8 rear end and the higher gear ratio super 8.8 rear ends has to do with the differential itself. To run the 3.15 gear in a car that came with a higher gear ratio you must change the differential to match the 3.15 ring and pinion. Most of the guys that I've seen do this are heavily boosted.

Here is a link to ford performance that details this in the description of one of their ring and pinions (look for the "NOTE" at the bottom of the overview). They also give the link to the differentials that will work with the 3.15 gear set in super 8.8 housing.

I read somewhere about a month ago that there is aftermarket gears for the super 8.8 now in 3.89, 4.10, 4.30, and 4.56, along with the factory ratios

I took a look on the ford website, it seems as if the tallest gear available is a 3.55 is that correct? I thought I could go as tall as 3.31.

Thanks for the information.

The standard gear on the manual cars is a 3.31 with a 3.55 optional, and manual performance pack gets 3.73. Autos come standard with 3.15's and 3.55 is optional. Auto performance pack gets 3.55's
