So here I am asking something that I am sure has been asked, but before you bash me I did use the search button. I dont know maybe I couldnt find the right key words. So here is goes:

I have a 94 Cobra with 55K and I am planning on a pretty good build down the road. For now I just dont fell like tearing down a perfectly good enigine so I want to utilize what I have. That being said I was thinking of putting a supercharger on the stock engine. I have or will have full exhaust. What kind of numbers could I possibly see with a proper tune? How far could I push the stock engine without completely destroying it? What other mods would I need besides what comes in the kit.. ie injectors, fuel pump, etc. etc. Would a PnP of the GT40's and Intake be worth it?

BTW I just ordered the MM Road and track kit with the coilover upgrade so I do have some suspension to handle it. I will also be running 315/35 DR's out back. Thanks, John

WELCOME TO STANGNET.!!!

Well what you "could" see and what you "should" see if you want to keep it safe are different.

You should not try for more than 8# boost. The engine should handle it if it's in good shape. You will need some fuel upgrades to support it and prevent damage, and some kind of timing retard device or a tune (BTM comes with Vortech kit)...you did not mention what you are buying (brand, kit, head only, etc)

You could easily and safely attain 360-370 to the wheels.

As far as P/P, I would put the kit on first and see how you feel with it. Always have about 10-15% of you budget as a reserve...you may need it.

Good luck

with the stock cobra engine you should see in the mid 300s easy with about 8#s. I'd be comfortable with going to 10#s. personally if your still trying to decide what brand, i would go with procharger. It comes with an intercooler, which is safer on the engine. most guys on here have vortechs, which are a bit cheaper, but you can't have an intercooler.

Thanks guys. I didnt think I could get that much power our the engine stock. I did look at a couple of vortech and procharger kits. After I put on the SC I will be building a complete engine to handle a lot more boost. Does the Procharger come with an ignition retard unit? What would you guys reccomend? Finally, what specifcly should I look for as far as fuel upgrades?

I have 350 rwhp on my 94 Cobra with 128k miles & a Powerdyne supercharger with a 9 lb pulley. If you go with a Vortec you should be able to get more hp than me, the Powerdyne is one of the smallest supercharers. If you keep the boost to 9 lbs or below your stock motor "should" last with a good tune.

a guy local here-think he is on here as well-has a 94-95gt with cobra intake and stock heads and cam with I think 12lbs along with t-body, ign.,exh., 355's, ect. with a speedbrain for tuning and he put out like 405-425 rwhp.

94CobraPace-Thanks, I was actually leaning toward the procharger being that it is intercooled. It seems like you have put some miles on your setup. Any problems so far? What did you have to do besides the supercharger kit?

blksn95-If you recall who this guy is let me know I would like to know his specs.

you could buy my blower! lol I'm going with a 351 stroker and am selling just about everything on my car now because i wont be using it anymore... so enough about that

yeah, go with the boost, you wont regret it - nothing's better IMO (cept for those um-teenth thousand dollar turbo setups) -

ive had two blown 5.0's the car and my 95 GTS - the 95 was quick, but it didnt feel it as it had no gears or really any torque adding things. my car now runs good with it -

procharger is a good setup - no problems to speak of (one oil leak b/c the unit is a little older - but a new seal was not hard to replace) through the intercooler with a 14lb pulley i saw 11 lbs. 7-8 with the 10lb pulley.
i've never been on the dyno - so i cant say what the numbers are. i've ran the kit with an FMU and without. got the 255 inline and 30lb injectors, an MSD coil, and 6AL for the spark (i had some issues with the boost blowing out the spark with the weak stock ignition and all that fuel and air going in there)

any more questions... send em.

How do you have a blown car and never been on a dyno (at least to tune it)?

I have a 95 cobra with 34K on the clock. I put on a V1 S-trim:hail2: last summer on a totally stock engine except for off-road h pipe and flows. I used everything that came with the kit (excellent fit no problems) but I am switching to 42lb injectors, powerpipe, 80mm MAF, 255lph and afpr. I will trailer my car to the dyno and get a chip/tune after the install. The tuner says with a proper tune, 10lbs. boost will be fine. Good luck!
