Supercharged GT or save money for Mach

I have an 00 GT with 41k on it right now and i am thinking of weather i want to mod my car further with a kb supercharger at 6psi, a 4k kit not including install and all the lil extras or save the 4k-5k and invest towards a mach 1 with 20 to 30 k range. Also i wouldn't be doin this til next summer so my car will prolly have 50k or so on it. Any opinions, and yes i already know the mach has so much more potential but if i bought the mach i wouldn't have much money left to spend on mods, maybe exhaust and intake. Which i would probably take the exaust off of my GT to use on the Mach. O and my goal is to beat an ls1, friend is getting one and i'm not too fond of him spanking me all day long.

Don't spend the money on a blower imo. lol... It's fun for a while, but it's still a 7 year old car.... For as much money as a blower costs (properly setup 6-8k after you get done with gauges, a/f, tune, blah blah blah blah blah) you can just buy a s197 (if you like the body style) or dare I say it, another kind of car (dun dun dun).

I'm a bit biased, but I say go for the Mach. You just can't beat the styling and heritage of the Mach 1. And the performance is not too shabby either.

Better platform over lesser platform with only a boost of power. The Mach1 is a great performer right out of the box.

IMHO, the only difference I see is this, you "know" your car in and out, everything about it, how it's been treated, especially if you've owned since new. In that case only, I would keep the GT and do what you like. If you didn't own since new, then consider. A 20-30k Mach1 could be beaten, could also be cherry as all hell, so, do your homework, you'll be ok.

In the end, I still kinda lean toward the Mach. Just a special car, I wouldn't trade my 99LE for any other GT thru '04, because of the awesome options it has, (every single one available, even block immersion heater).

Tough call since both options would give you the chance to stomp LS1s.

Really depends on how attached you are to the car. Either way sounds good.
PERSONALLY I'd probably S/C the GT.

Go with the Mach....you could probably find a nice one with really low miles for $20-23k. I've seen a bunch in that range around here.

Or if you want to stomp LS1's....just buy an LS1!!!

You could buy a '98-99 Z28 for a decent price.. then spend the rest of the money that would've gone to buying a Mach on full exhaust, cam, LS6 intake and bolt-ons and have over 400rwhp

I had the same looong debate with myself for a few months. But it was S/C vs. 03 Cobra. Cobra would have hurt me a bit more financially, but I love my car. My decision can be seen in my sig

We all know you hate your car already. And your price range of 6k-8k for a complete setup is way off...much like your guess of my 1/4 mile time and traps.

My mongoose kit, purchased from MPH cost me $2750 complete. The head unit and powerpipe was used with 5k miles on it. Everything else, brand new. I saved so much I was able to buy gauges and SFC's to complete the package and still be under $3k. Even if you bought it brand new for $3800 that's still a far cry from $6k.

Much like Ambo, I was on the fence with the Terminator vs. S/C, and I'm so glad I made the right choice. Haven't looked back yet...except at some 03 Cobra's in my rearview!

Whoa, whoa man calm down. I don't hate my car, hardly in fact. You have no reason to say such a thing...so why say it? 6-8k is a reasonable estimate for a Kenne Bell kit + shop install. Checkout MPH's KB Mongoose prices if you don't think that's just about spot on... Also, $6,000 is a reasonable estimate for a new Vortech kit after accomodating suspension and drivedrain upgrades, etc. I know my setup was $4,100 shipped to my door from MPH incuding powerpipe, add LC-1 [190], Autometer gauges [125], gauge pod [40], 3.3" RR pulley [160], tb/plenum [200], grand total $4815 - now add usual cost of installation for such stuff and you've got yourself a good $6000. And hey, my "guessing" of your 1/4 ET and trap was based off my own experiences with my non-intercooled Mongoose kit falling flat on its face at the 1100'.

Anyway. If you're into mustangs - go for a Terminator if you can afford the extra insurance. Terminators can be had for $22,000-$25,000 with relatively low miles. One great thing about Mach 1's however is that quite a few insurance companies group them as Mustang GT's or "Mustang GT 'Mach 1'" and subsequently do not up the premiums.

I'm sorry Benny, didn't mean to come off as sounding harsh. I recall a few posts about how the mustang is a pig and how it rates compared to your friends cars, etc.

I neglected to read that he was infact pricing a KB setup, so therefore your prices range is correct, so I apologize.

Since you don't have a lot of miles on your car, and I assume it is paid off...then I'd say keep the GT and s/c it. This way you can save whatever money in the coming years (from not having a car payment) and use it to buy a built block and up the power by a considerable margin later.

I should of done this earlier to give you guys a little background, i bought my car about 3months ago and i have put 4k miles on it already,(i drove a lot because it was a new car) i am the third owner of the car and the guy before me was in the military and said he barley drove it over the 2 yrs he had it and older guy had it before him. I paid cash for most of it but have bout 2k on a loan which i plan on paying off by this time next year. I will NOT by a ls1 because i'm not a chevy/gm guy, also u can pick up a mach for about the same price that you find a low milage ws6 (which is the only other car i would consider), i know because my friend is looking for one right now and everything is about 15-18k and lookin at about 18k for a one with around 30k miles. So for that i could find a deal on a mach for the same price. Cobra is outta my price range, i could prolly afford only 17-18 next summer after selling my car for prolly 11 or so. Cobra would bump my insurance way to high since i will only be 20.

Dont go LS1, Mustang is a much better "car". F-body= ugly ext., incredibly ugly int., and just cheap, poor....uhg. But quick!!

With my mods I've kept side by side with two different LS1's, I dunno, my car runs good.

Anyways I'd never give up the stangs reliability and looks, for an F-body.
This is all IMO however .

I am actually in the same debt right now, i bought my 03 brand new with 13 miles on it, and now it has 68000, I guess i like to drive, but im still paying on it, and actually just refinanced, so im going to have it for a while, but the more i look at it probably 65 percent of the cars like that (cobra's and Mach's) are going to be not taken care of all that well or beaten up pretty good, so i figure ill just keep the GT then when the time comes throw some forged internals and a blower and have alot of the same performace as a mach or cobra just without the 4V sound, and i guess after you add in a new car price, higher insurance rates and etc, saving up for the parts for the GT i guess would be an offset.. so i guess like everybody said its more just a personal opionion. But i would stay with the GT

DanD4Speed, you ran a 12.2 on street tires?! Please tell me you were on DR or Stickies! I can't track my car due to it being a vert so I'll never know exactly how she can run at the track. All i know is the boost is a blast!

Buy a helmet and they should let you run atleast once. If the car is too fast then you'll need a roll bar.
