lets say figurtively speaking you have a 94-95 cobra making aprox 365 rwhp...what rear gears would be the best for this 5.0 vortech system to get the best performance?
thank you

ok so i have some 3.73's to put into it, but i think it might be a little too hard to keep the wheels from spinning considering i dont have anything but street tires on it....i mean figurtively speaking

3.55's are a good power adder gear. 3.73's will be fine, but you might be shifting pretty fast in the quarter mile.

with a stock motor and a blower, 3.73's. With a motor that spins to 7k and has a blower 4.10's.

This is only my opinion, there are other good ideas.

4.10's with a stock supercharged car will probably get into 5th gear at the track and you don't want that. But if you have H/C/I and a blower I fell that you could use 4.10's and 4th gear would be about maxed crossing the line. I have 4.10's and want to get a blower, but i think I will build the motor first so I can keep my 4.10's.

A blown 331 with 4.10's would be so fast. oh gezzz, I'm going to wet myself.

p.s. Spinning is fun.

so you guys think i would be fine with a stock motor and blower and 3.73's? my mechanic thought i would be shiifting too much....but i dont know if he knows an apple from a bananna....so yeah...i thought i would be ok too because of some other posts i have read...but when he said that and i couldnt decide 3.55's or the ones i just got last week which are 3.73's... and i have been also reading posts about the speedo being off and also the odometer...should i even attempt it myself or should i take it to my mechanic who tells me it would take 6-8 hours to do....($240-$320) and who also may not know apples from banannas sometimes as stated before.

I did my gears, but it was very time consuming without the right tools. I also have a little whine due to the lack of a pinion depth setup tool. You need three tools that a normal mechanic will not have if you're just doing a gear swap. These three tools are a pinion depth setup tool, a backlash tool, and a press. If you have all of those tools, then the installation might be easier, but if I had to do it a second time, I'd get somebody to do it.

3.73's to 4.10's with a centrifugal blower
3.55's to 3.73's with a positive displacement blower

3.73's seem to fall right in the middle of both.

With a T-5 & stock size tires the max speed in 4th gear is ~ 120mph at redline (6k rpm). You'd need alot more than 365rwhp to have to shift into 5th at the track. Stock engine + S-Trim I say 373's for a daily driver, 4.10's for a 1/4 mile terror. 4th would be good till ~111mph, and if thats not enough you can always go a little taller with the tires. 4.10;s would be a very nice gear because you'd end up almost exactly at redline at the traps, assuming ~360rwhp.

355s, especially with a roots or twin screw blower. You could probably get away with 373s if you had a centrifugal blower. I think 410s and a supercharger would be overkill.

so far i think that the majority of you say 3.73's should be good....a few 3.55's in there. but are there any people in here that have a supercharger and gears and tell me if they do like them, or dont, or what they would change to make it better?
thanks

3.55s, stock engine, vortech s-trim

if i had to do it again, i would go 3.73s with my style blower, 3.55s with a roots style

ok got ya.....
i think that i am going to just go ahead and do the 3.73's....
did any of you have the 3.08's while supercharged, then switch over to the 3.73's ? did it sill make a huge diffrence? i know alot of people on here talk about it being a diffrence between night and day when they get gears...i just wonder if it is the same size of diffrence when supercharged....

roots style=Kenne Bell, Eaton, like on the 03/04 Cobra's.

I say go with 3.55's. 3.73's would probably match that HP really good, but if you add more HP you'll be running out of gear in the 1/4. A friend of mine has a Vortech'd 347 with 3.73's and I think he was going back to 3.27's because he has to shift into 5th with the 3.73's.

Yeah, but unless you're running over 120mph in the 1/4 3.73's will be fine. You can always go to a 28" tall tire also.
