if i bought either a paxton or similar centrifugal supercharger and ran in at low boost like 5-6lbs would i be able to run it on a stock motor without any problems. Would i need to upgrade anything like injectors or maf? obviously i would need to dyno tune it to make sure the a/f ratios are safe and such. i would assume that you would need to run a premium gasoline tune , but would it be possible to do it on 87? Im just looking to see everything that might need to be done so thanks for the help.

btw are there ne good chargers out there that run under $2000? i havent really looked into it too much but if anybody knows thanks :SNSign:

With a good tune biased toward safety and not power, yes. In fact, you can run upwards of 8-10psi on a stock motor if the tune is spot on. Every pound of boost over atmospheric carries increasing risk of course, but the bottom end of a solid 4.6 is able to withstand ~400rwHP if the tune is such that you don't detonate.

Absolutely. Injectors will be a must. The MAF...at 5-6#s, probably not.

Probably the most important part of any FI install.

Hmm. Probably have to ask the tuner but I doubt it. Detonation is the worst enemy of the stock shortblock. 87 is pretty dodgy. Any gas station that has 87 has 91 or better. If you absolutely can't get anything other than 87, carry a couple of bottles of NOS octane booster in the trunk as a back-up. Each bottle is ~1.5 points of octane increase.

If you're considering 87 for the $$$ savings over premium, you probably shouldn't be looking at a blower.

I doubt you'd be able to locate even a high-miles well used system for that.

Cost-cutting and blowers don't go together. Really, if you're putting FI on a stock shortblock, you should have enough money socked away in reserve to put a new/used engine in it especially if it's a daily driver. The 4.6 is pretty strong but it only takes a second to crack a brittle ring land with some detonation.

wow thanks for the fast response... as for getting premium i can get 93 around me at every gas station.. i was jc to see what could be done w 87 or even 89 octane, if i got a blower i would deff use the higher grade gas. what do you think would be a good price to find a supercharger for aprox. and lastly what would be a good injector size to upgrade to for the amount of boost iid be looking for? i dont really wanna run high amounts of boost if i go that route

I just purchased my new vortech kit for 1500 so if you look hard enough, you can find deals especially with the money flow not going so well for everyone right now. You can look to spend 2-2500 for some other kits I have seen though.

Any complete kit will come with the injectors
