I'm pretty sure you can buy it as a 'tuner kit'. It comes with all the brackets and the headunit, but none of the fuel or ignition stuff.

As someone that sees quite a few modded mustangs nearly every day, i'm going to disagree with the supercharger before the H/C/I.

First off, if you pop a head gasket it's much more work to fix it, second depending on motor condition you could blow oil out of the intake gaskets and the car can burn significantly more oil.
Third of all, you will likely get beat by a good H/C/I car.

Get the h/c/i, then if you want more power add the supercharger to it, work from the inside out, so the supercharger doesn't have to come off to do the inside stuff.

I'd like to challenge this saying. When you say good H/C/I car, do you mean on a stock bottom end and box stock parts? I'd like to take someone up on this offer. I might get beat by a car setup to go in a straight line, but id like to run a "good" H/C/I car thats like the normal street mustang.

I'm saying that a car with a well thought out combo with a cam that suits the heads and intake will take a car that has a supercharger only.

I'm not talking about some gt40p or iron combo, something with say, canfields, tw's, afrs, newer edelbrocks. customs cams, and all high end parts.
I've seen many h/c/i run between 113-117mph in the quarter.

Stock bottom ends included.

I've seen it first hand many times.

With the comboin the sig I got walked by a HCI coupe with all the right parts. Granted he would not drive on the interstate for long or drive it all day long, but I was gotten on a Saturday night... And that was one out of a bunch. Most of my races occur on the interstate and end when fourth runs out of RPM and I'm well ahead of whatever I'm up against.

Blower's add about two hours to a teardown and about three to reassembly on a motor. If the head gasket goes, so what...

Yah, I loved that car. The problem was emissions. I had to register the car out of state at some property that I owned. I eneded up having to sell the property, therefore loosing my registration. There was no way to get that car to pass emissions, so I had to sell.

It was border line non streetable. The car liked to idle or blown wide open, there was no in between. It was scary fast. It would brake the tires loose at 60mph. I was always scared to put real slicks on it. I figured it would brake something. The car ran 11.47 from a rolling start. It would never hook up with drag radials. You could smoke the tires thru third gear. Lots of fun to drive around town, you could chirp or burn the tires at will. The 460 was very reliable and never gave me any problems.

The guy who bought the car down sized the carb and the distributor. The car is much more streetable now. The car won Fun Ford this year and also I think it won the Year One Cup in its class. I was able to see the car at both events this year. Still looked great!!!

EXACTLY! Also, a supercharger is easy as crap to install. Especially if you don’t have oil lines like my Powerdyne. I got it done in 1 day by mostly by myself and I have never installed a supercharger before. Tearing down and engine to install h/c/i would take me a lot longer. I just wanted something cheap and fast, that’s why I went with a S/C.

I'm not saying i'm against superchargers, because i like them. But putting boost into an engine combination that can't get the air out is just asking for trouble, it's got to go somewhere and that somewhere is usually the intake gaskets, then the heads gaskets.
H/c/i makes more usable power, probably less peak power, but that's not what makes a car fast.

Supercharger only car runs the quarter in around 106-110mph, i've seen h/c/i cars run the quarter from those mph all the way up to 117 with stock shortblocks. Granted i see many more worked mustangs than most of you guys.

Dont you need to replace the stock head gaskets. i heard that they will hold up to 8psi, anything above that they will blow out, is that correct?

Ford said to use their graphite head gaskets or equvelt.

85-90 5.0's used Fel-pro Print-O-Seal gaskets.
91-93 5.0's used Fel-pro expanded graphite gaskets.

I've heard you want to be very careful with head gaskets and a power adder on a stock engine. If you buy the expensive Comtic or whatever gaskets they will more than likely break something weaker in the link. Instead of busting a headgasket you bend a pushrod or maybe crack a block or something along those lines? Get what I'm saying??? Just stick with the Fel-Pro's unless you think your motor can take it? Or your motor is completely built up. (Although you already got the graghite gaskets).

Superchargers4less.com sells them fo $2455 shipped, S-Trim with T-rex pump and and MSD boost timing retard ignition components. On a completely stock motor the S-trim should be around 10psi but with the change of a pulley you can make it 12 to 20psi. For a stock motor I would not recommend anything higher than 14 but would recommend you stay around 10psi. The kit comes with a 3 year warranty but if you change the pulley it drops to one year.

Anyone supercharge a stock motor? how about a high miles stock motor? Any issues? big gains? or better off spending $$ on heads and cam?

Possibly going to the dyno this saturday. I have stock heads and cam and 128,000 miles on the motor.
