Ok I know nothing about doing this at all. I want to know what Super Charger I should go with and why. I have a 351w with a compression ratio of 8.2 to 1. I have vic jr heads and a dual plane intake at the moment. I know i will probably need a different cam and of course a different carb maybe even a vic jr intake. The car is a street strip combo. I don't even know how much boost i want but i think no more the 8 pounds. That being said a super charger that allows me to grow later is probably a good idea. Thx for your suggestions and reasons why in advance.

Talking to a Parts company they reccomend the Paxton Novi 1500. Good to 12 psi I am told.

Since its a 351 you probably want at least an s-trim or equvilent, with that low of a c/r you should be able to run a pretty good amount of boost.

Ok i'm not sure what an s-trim is. Why would i want to run that? Does it give me more boost? looks like the s trim and the novi 1500 are closely matched as far as cfm delivery is concerned.

I really think that 150hp more then N/A is what i want. After all any less then that and i might aswell just keep the nitrous. so i guess no matter what super charger i go with i will need atleast 8 psi boost.

On a 351... I def be looking at the larger chargers...

and for carbed.. go with a big Ol Wiend blower... you got the cowl to cover it right???

yes that is an idea i guess i should call around and get some pricing on those but for some reason a centrifugal blower appeals to me. i only have 2.5 inch cowl. The roots style i doubt would fit under it.

why would you go with this S/C'er? As i stated i don't know much at all about S/C'ers.

Procharger provides an intercooler which is much better for a street car. I personally would be looking at a vortech t-trim, would be a good match for low compression and the amount of air you'll need to move.

problem is vortech does not make a kit for a carb'd car. Paxton does. They make a kit for a 69 351w but as we know that is a different deck hieght then the rest of the 351w. I guess it would mean getting a different bracket made and longer belt. If i went with a vortech s/c then i would be just buying the s/c by itself and then buying the paxton air box and mix and matching piping to get it to work. I guess it could be done but i'm no welder or fabricator.

I would go with a Vortech T-trim, or Novi 2k. You can get a carb hat cheap enough, and mate it to the vortech setup, not a problem. The paxton Novi 2k is great blower for the price. If you want a blower that will help you grow, the T-trim or the Novi 2k would be a great choice. At the boost level you want to run, a much larger blower from the 2 that i mentioned (YSi etc.) wont make much more power than the Novi 2k or the T-trim (maybe even less) at the boost level you are shooting for. Both the T-tim and Novi are within a few hundred dollars of each other and both are a great choice. If you are looking at strictly CFM that each blower can flow the Novi is about 200cfm higher than the t-trim, and both can be bought pullied for 8-10psi of boost. The T-trim is quite noisy compared to the Novi because of the straight cut gears versus the Novi's helical cut gears, i dont know if that matters to you much, but the T-trim is LOUD, no sneaking up on someone with that under the hood! If you want an intercooler procharger is the way to go, but you can also run a water/meth injection and save a lot of money and use it when you need it. Hope this helps you some!

The vortec s/c is to small for the 351. you would have to drop a coulpe of pulley sizes to get the boost up.

I dont even think the sc would even get you 8lbs on a 351 with a smaller pulley.(plus it would void the warranty on the supercharger if you care about that)

plus the s/c is crazy loud, at idle at least. At a stoplight you will hear the s/c over your cars exhaust.

Holley used to make a low profile root type blower made to fit under the hood of a ford, not shure if they still do.

A T-trim would be plenty for him, and S-trim prob. wouldnt cut it.

Ok can someone explain something to me. Why is it you need a different cfm rated supercharger? why would say a t trim work and a s trim not? I'm trying to learn a little.

If your 351 was bone stock you might be ok with an S-trim. I am no supercharger master, but i have run 3 supercharged cars and this is what i learned along the way. Because you have heads/intake etc. your motor is breathing way more than a stock 351 would. Boost is created by air actually backing up in the intake manifold, so you have positive pressure instead of vacuum. You will see on most supercharger manufacturers websites, the blowers are rated for a motor to a certain HP, because once you near this power level, the blower cant supply enough air (cfm) to the motor to create any decent amount of boost before you overspin the blower, the head unit itself basically has a "redline" just like your motor before it cant handle anymore. That is why you would want to step up to a blower with a higher CFM rating, you will notice that when the CFM rating goes up, so does the HP level the blower can handle. You would have to spin an S-trim (maybe not 8lbs) so hard to create the boost you want, that you may run into problems with the head unit, and also the blower is out of its "efficiency range," that is why i said a YSi may actually make less power than a t-trim at 15psi. Once you hit 20lbs the exact opposite will happen, the t-trim will fall off and the YSi will take off. Hope i helped you understand this a little more.

yes thx that does make sense. I doubt i would every try to push boost over 15 psi. Atleast not with my current engine. so perhaps a t trim is the way to go. If i was to compare the t trim to a procharger unit which would be comparible?

The t-trim is comparable to the D-1 procharger. Both the D-1 and the T-trim are comparable, but the T-trim takes the cake for the noise. I know there are some vidoes of them on a couple websites, you may want to listen to it. I dont remember, is this a daily driver? I mean, that thing is LOUD, i honestly think it would drown out the procharger, anyhow, i know some guys prefer different brands of blowers, and to each there own, i know you said you were interested in a procharger, if you do, go with a D-1, if you go with a vortech, go with the t-trim.
