Surge List No Dash Light

So in preparation to count blinks from the computer, I read the list requires a "working" dash light on 89 up cars. My 89 HO is in a 63 Falcon with no dash light.
Will the test light hookup 88 back still work? Or is there another way around this issue? Besides buying a proper code reader.

Yes, you can use a test light. Either method works as the 89 later cars would just blink both the dash light and the test light

I have another question...There is no clutch switch. Am I gonna just end up with a code 67? The previous owner must have jumped it somewhere in order for it to start. O the joys of figuring out shade tree wiring!

There are 2 switches on the clutch. The clutch safety switch that will not allow the car to start unless the clutch is pressed and the neutral sensing switch(NSS) that is paralleled with a switch on the transmission. For the NSS when the clutch is pressed or the trans is in neutral is lets the computer know for idle and anti stall strategy (dashpots). The NSS not being connected will give you the code 67 and will also make your car idle like crap (surging and stalling).
If you have no switches on the clutch someone jump the clutch safety switch to get it to start and probably left the NSS disconnected so the computer thinks you are always in gear with the clutch not pressed and is trying to prevent a stall.

I really need to look into this further. Figure out just how it's done. Really good info here, thanks Dan. This could really explain some issues!

Yep your right! I got the wires cleaned up and working and with a Innova Scanner I came up with code 67. Plus some more mostly emissions codes. How are these missing neutral switches/sensor dealt with? Connected together? Jumped in a circle? Series or something?
