I took off the starter tonight to ID the engine in my new '66 coupe that I was told had a mid 90's block in it. They were wrong!
The ID #'s read D1ZM-6015-AA
This is the much sought after Mexican block with 289 Hi-Po style bearing caps, thicker cylinder skirts, and higher nickel content alloy. This would be a great platform for a 347 stroker in the future. It should stay together in a high horse application.
Does anyone here have any experience with the mexican block? Are these the only differences?
