Well, on my Mustang I put on a Turbo Coupe front swaybar (with urethane bushings and endlinks), a '99 GT rear swaybar, and cut V8 front springs. Also added a strut tower brace, subframes, and a 4-point K-member brace. With some 225/60R15 tires, that car handled great.

I have added pretty much the same stuff that Red has to my 92.
I have:

HPM Strut tower brace
1 5/16" front sway bar
1" Steeda rear sway bar
Custom full length subframes
Poly bushings for the sway bar end links and mounts
225/55/ H 16 ponys

My favorite mod has to be the subfames and the ponys, they have made the most noticeable improvement to the car. I tried to add a Kenny Brown 4 point G-load brace but due to the aluminum oil pan on the 91-93s it would not fit. I say get a nice set of rims and tires and some good shocks and struts that will be a good start. I think that my next mod will be a set of springs to get rid of that 4x4 look and make her sit nice and low. If ya want to take a look at some of the mods check out my site I have some pics and a few details about each mod.

Currently I have GT swaybars and an Eibach Pro-Kit....by the end of summer I should have Bilsteins on all four corners and subframe connectors, as well as 11" front brakes. I also have Kuhmo Ecsta 712 tires, which were a big improvement over my old worn tires.

cut 99+ springs
tokico illumina struts in the front
11" 5.0 brakes
polyurethane control arm bushings, sway bar bushings, and endlinks
1 5/16" front swaybar
small rear bar
ponys' with Yokos'
What I could really use now is some chassis support, and CC plates to get some more negative camber... but as it is, I can still scare the crap out of myself with how much grip it has.

suspension

It depends on what you start with and what you want. I cant speak for the Tbirds or the stock 2.3s too much. I havent beaten on too many to know how they were stock. The svos on the other hand dont need that much as long as the stock stuff isnt worn out (yea right 20 years) I have had the poly all arround, ruber all arround, now I have a combo of del aluminum and poly. I like it but some feel it is too rough for street. I have had the eiboch pro kit, stock, stock cut now the motorsport Cs. I cant say enough about the C's. I would still be running my PLA strut brace but it wont fit arround my new front mount. It is the only one I found so far that fit the 2.3 with the SVO or Tbird IC without too much hastle. I need to have my pipes re routed because cornering without it is definatly noticible.

3 words Sub frame connectors. If you dont have them go and get them. It will make your ride totally different.
