The car had B&M hammer, i want to swap the old one back in.

Do i just unhook the cable and etc from under the car, remove the console and unbolt the assembly??

any other details, how long would it take to do the swap??

You couldn't PAY ME to put the stock shifter back in! Missing 3rd gear at 80 mph and slamming into 1st sucks. If you don't like the shifter then I'd recommend that you hold out for something else before making the swap.

I'm not sure how it is on the 87-93 cars but on my 86, I can do the whole thing from inside the car. Pull the center console and boot and get access to the 4 bolts that hold the shifter on. 1 hour job (give or take).

I assume your talking about a 5 speed, i have an AOD.
I want to try and put it in, my shift cable may be stretched, i want to put the stocker back in and see if the problem may be in the shifter itself....

PS THIS IS MY 302nd POST WOOT!

I put my stock shifter back in to find the problem with my new transmission not shifting... Turns out my Hurst was worn and I'd pay good money to have a stock shifter at that time!

Yep... I had 5 speed on the brain.

It's been awhile since I installed my B&M, but from what I remember it is pretty straight forward and shouldn’t take you too long to reinstall the stocker. As for removing the console, you could probably try it but it may just get in your way and end up being a PITA.

If you are having trouble with the B&M shifting, the cable may just need some adjusting. I think there is room for adjustment at the trans side of the cable. I personally love the shifter and have not had any problems with it at all. It’s definitely better than the stocker, and you can miss gears if you use the 1-D-1 shuffle on the stock shifter. The B&M locks out at each gear unlike the stocker so when you go 1--> D you don’t slip past D into OD. :bang:

I dont understand... adjustable from the tranny side?? Do you just mean the little hole and bolt???
If so then its stretched or something. I've tried ALL sorts of things, to no avail....

Sorry about the confusion.

For the B&M Mustang Console shifter "Factory cables are utilized to retain the factory interlock mechanisms". I just found this and realized that the B&M shifter on my Ranger has the aftermarket cable and there is adjustment on the tranny side. So what you plan on doing by switching shifters to see if it is the cable or the shifter is probably your best bet. Let us know what you find.

Again I apologize for confusion..

Well i guess its the cable, i hooked it up and its all wacked up. If i hold the button and move the shifter, i can feel it shoft gears but its nowhere near alignment with the positions on the shifter. And it wont go to low 1 either.
I am guessing its the cable.....
