Well, I've been away from SN for awhile and just now got a chance to make my announcement. I'm now one of you guys!! I got the 5.0 in the car and got it running on Aug 14th. I'm am really pleased with this setup so far. The only two negatives were no oil pressure on start-up and no coolant temp when warmed up. Both of these things were due to sending units being from aftermarket guages (I'm using the stock guages for now). And, I shelled out the alternator on the night that I took it out for the first time. It wouldn't seem that the alt locking-up would be worse than no o.p. or temp, but it burned the belt off of it and I ended up towing the car to my house. Bummer!! :notnice: But, I am thrilled with how it's running. It really sounds gnarly when I get on it. I'll update my signature with the details when I get time.
I need to send props to SORSCODE for all the time he spend in emails helping me with some details of the swap; it made all the difference in the world to have someone with experience helping out when I needed it. So, Danny, I owe you a beer (or two :) ) when you get down to OK (if ever). Thanks alot again. If anyone is considering this swap and need some help from someone that's gone through this, let me know, I'll help in anyway that I can. Gotta go for now, but I just had to tell someone!!

Here you go Phil...

Looks good guy... Keep me updated on it...

Some info

Look in the "My Garage" for most of the mods that I have done (engine and drivetrain-wise). I was really expecting some problems with the e303 cam (idle and such) but, it really hasn't been that terrible. I had to adjust up the idle speed a little. It was kind of freaky acting with a different idle speed and hanging idle coming back down at first (all the stuff everyone has problems with e303 cams). But, lately it has really started acting a lot more normal as the computer gets used to the cam ( and the 1.7 ratio rockers didn't help in this dept at all). It's really got a killer lope to it at idle; I love it!! I used some good Crane valve springs due to piston to valve concerns but I measured all the P-V clearances and had well beyond the spec numbers, but the good springs are some insurance anyway because this thing really revs clean and quick. I don't know at what point the intake and heads start to restrict the flow (and therefore the rpm potential), this thing tachs out the stock tach really quickly!! I know the stock tach still thinks it's got a v6 in it so its not very accurate. I love the SPEC stage 1 clutch!! This thing grabs and holds very well. I was so used to the stock clutch (with 104k miles) slipping like crazy, that I had to learn to drive a stick again!! Now, for all the other goodies, like CAI, Intake, Heads, and so forth. My main goal for now was to get the engine in and running and then start some more mods. The cam was a sweet deal that I couldn't pass up ( brand new for $80) from a guy that couldn't use it. It's alot easier to change the cam on the engine stand than in the car. So, I didn't really want to get the cart before the horse (using stock heads and intake) it just turned-out that way. Thanks for all the kind words. I'll keep you updated!!

Congrats on the motor swap! Cheap insurance and a mean car... what more could you want.

What part of OK are you at? Most of our guys are from the Pittsbug, KS area... but we have a few guys from OK as well.

We've got some guys headed that way to the Mustang vs. Buick Challenge.

Check us out if you get a chance, might meet some of the crew when they head out that way: www.100mphclub.com

I worked with a guy from Enid.... can't remember his name for the life of me though.

Get to the track before the season ends... I'm sure everyone would like to know what you run now. Do you have numbers from before the V-8?

No, I've never raced it---at the track!! LOL!! I've owned the car since it was brand new and never saw the need to run a stock v6 at the track. Unless some of the others there needed a good laugh. I guess the closest track to here is at Thunder Valley (about 1 1/2 hours from here). Tulsa and Ark City (KS) are both about 2 hrs from here. So, the distance is the biggest issue.

I have a track within 30 minutes of me now, but I still find myself driving back 2 hours to go run with the 100mphclub.com crew.

We're trying to plan an event at the closer track so they can head this way. I've heard traction is better at this track. :D
