Swap or Upgrade

Ok so I am researching a bunch of things regarding the 5.0l engine I have right now in my stang. I would like to get some opinions on what I should do. I first thought that I should swap out for a bigger engine. more cubic inches more horsepower. But the more I think about it should or shouldn't I. I am trying to find the best way to go.

I am looking to use this mostly as a street car with the odd weekend strip racing now and then. My goal is to keep it as a sleeper.

My question is what can I expect as far as horsepower and torque if I upgrade (heads, and internals etc) my 5.0l and supercharge it?
I have heard all sorts of numbers ranging from 300-900hp. I would like to have around the 450-500+ is this possible with a 5.0l and would it be a reliable street driver or am I going to be blowing parts all the time?

Thoughts?

Should I go big block or stay with the 5.0l?

If you did upgrade heads and internals there shouldn't be a problem with the SC. Many don't even get the forged internals with reasonable boost levels. At about 550-600rwhp you hit the block's limit. Remember though, with 450-500 (which is doable w/what you mentioned) you will have to upgrade your clutch, axles and rear end if you don't want broken stock parts. Also you might want to look into a turbo (or two ;) ).

Also, don't forget that the stock transmissions won't hold up for long with that kind of power. But, there are plenty of choices out there that will hold up to the power you are wanting to have. The 5.0 is very capable of 450-500RWHP if you got the money.

If your goal is 450-500 rwhp, then the 5.0L will be fine. Assuming you buy new parts, and mostly do the wrench turning yourself, I think it could probably be done for less than $10k. But it'd be close :)

Don't mind this post, just seeing if I could do something.

atreyu04, that probably means you live close to me... fan of the el dorado atreyu guys

anyways, back to the post. I'm pretty sure Oink says that under 500HP is alright on our cars and he's a pretty reliable guy. so basically i'm agreeing with everybody else
