Ok first of all I have an 87 Turbocoupe 5 speed..... i was wondering how hard it would be to swap the engine and tranny in to an 89 nissan 240 sx ......... the reason i am doin this is becuase of the obvious wieght difference seein how the t bird ways around 3400 pds and the 240 wieght in the low 2k pds........or would it just be easier to swap it into a mustang lx body???

My brother has an '89 240SX...I am almost positive that if you put a 2.3L into one of them you'd have some hood clearance problems, since the engine in them has the intake mounted on the side of the head. Plus you'd end up with the exhaust on the wrong side so you'd have to figure that out. I think it'd take a good bit of fab work but the car would probably be pretty fast.

However, it'd be a lot easier and cheaper to just stick it in a mustang.

Yeah that is very true i completly forgot about that cause my cousin has his 240 body parked at my house over here with no motor in it and i knwo for sure the motor and tranny would go into the car but i forgot about the intake and how the t-bird goes up the around....... yeah im just tryin to get outta this tank but i love the engine cause i would imagine the car being fast because the t-bird is pretty fast pushin 3400 pounds lol then i was goin to completly strip everything outta the 240

Dont convert to the dark side :nonono: Buy a mustang, and swap away.

Isn't the 240Z a front wheel drive car? you'd have one hell of a time doing that swap if it is. You'd end up with a tube chassis race car..... with a tiny motor :notnice:

yea put it in a mustang. and if u really want to do something to the 240 SX then do an SR20 DET swap or if ur feeling really ballsy do an RB26 DETT swap.

pat

Everybody does the SR20, and fitting in the RB26 would be expensive. My brother swapped in a DOHC KA, but didn't get it started before he went to texas for law school, so he might finish it someday.

Also ALL 240's are RWD. They have IRS, they're not bad except it feels like you're sitting on the floor.

And while doing this post I talked to my brother and he says he thinks a 2.3L would fit since people have put 302's and 350's into 240sx's and they still fit under the stock hood.

But, it'd still take a good bit of fabbing.

yeah 240's are rwd drive seeing how i have one sittin at my house and the sr-20 swap everyone does i have a friend who just got his jdm motor from japan and is installing it in his ...and the reason i was goin to drop it down into the 240 was the wieght difference and then i was goin to drift/drag the car ........ so yeah i dunno but yeh i kinda like runnin my domestic 4 banger against all these rice burners and watching them set there after i bosst past them so yeah i think im just goointo find an lx

I'd check the weight again on that 240.

The Stang would be the most excellent drag car but my choice for drifting would be the TC. ( I own both) The TC is very forgiving in slides. Nice wheel base.

Also it would be easier to put the TC on a diet than to swap anything.
