hey guys im new here im fixing to convert my 93 lx coupe from a four banger to a 5.0 my question is could i keep my old 85mph dash instead of replacing it for the 140 mph and do the swap without any problems thanks in advance

If you are keeping the same transmission (from where the speedo cable hails) and the same rear end gearing (and to a lesser extent, wheels of the same diameter) then, yes, you can keep your original speedo.

If you are changing any of the above three items, steps will have to be taken to compensate, if you want a good speedo reading.

Tachs are different between 4 cyl and 5.0. Will need a 5.0 tach.

Just so you know, I've got a complete car I'm parting out so anything you need Including a speedo you can have for really cheap. I've got so many parts I'd just like to get rid of some of them. $25 for the speedo, cable and all. If there's any other brackets or anything you need, ECU etc.. just let me know. I've done swaps and I know how hard it can be tracking down parts. Good luck man.

actually im getting the whole swap including motor, k member, tranny, rear end, harness ecu, and now a tach and cable for around 2000 bucks is this a good deal buying the whole thing at once or should i piece the swap together and i should be starting on it around february and ill defenetly make a build thread thanks for the help

I would definitely say get everything together at once. If I wasn't planning on using the extra engine I have I'd sell you all that for even cheaper. What kind of transmission are you getting? How many miles does the engine and transmission have on them?

the place thats selling it to me says around 90k and the transmission would be the stock t5 but would like to build it later on and stock 8.8 rear end

would this be a good buy Mustang 79-93 Heavy Duty T-5 Transmission by Ford Racing at LRS - Same Day Shipping! instead of buying the one that comes with the swap or is there another site that i could get semi built trannys for cheaper

Nope. You can buy an entire parts car for less than that and have the same parts plus all the misc trim, wiring, plugs, brackets, etc that you will need.

$2K for a used driveline seems expensive to me. I'd put it at around $1000-1200ish

My coupe was a 4cyl, you need the fuel lines from the tank all the way to the engine because they cross over mid way up the car and pop up on the the driver side in the engine bay. The brake line in the back needs to be modified as well, taking the lines off the four cylinder axle(7.5) is a easy solution and to answer your question about the dash the 85mph worked fine in my car I did change tachs to a v8 and on a side note instead of changing the head light harness I extended my alt wires. K member was the same and didn't need to be replaced but there is a difference in spindles the v8 hubs would not physically go on to my 92. I found out about alot of the little things needed for the swap the hard way................

thanks for the info this is starting to sound more difficult than i thought it would be.. is there any website where i could buy kits needed for the swap

I used a 88 gt for parts, big part is swapping the fuel lines, and the eec harness. The harness needs to be a 90 and up since on the air bag cars the fuel pump relay moved from under the seat to under the hood on the passenger side fender well. Just collect your parts before you do it to minimize the car being down if your going to need it right away. Re-use your brake lines that run from the splitter block to each wheel cylinder and are on the stock rear end under the car now unless you wanna change that whole line that runs from the front to the back. It sounds like alot but it wasn't that bad.

my another ? is..is everything going to bolt ryte in including rear end motor and all and wat about the dual exhaust will the pipes go through the bottom of the car without any problems or a shop is needed to do some bending on the piping thanks

What parts do you have already lined up and is the 4cyl car a manual?

I quick run down of what I went through:
Swapped in the v8, v8 t-5, and 8.8
1-Electrical; I had to extend my alt wires cause its on the driver side on the 4 cyl in order to not have to swap the whole head light harness, I had to find a 90 and up eec harness and comp, I also changed the tach and that was it to make it work, I did do a 3g alt up grade and 140 sped but electric fans and under drive pulleys dictated that and the sped is cause I would peg the 85 mph in a hurry.
2-Fuel; the entire fuel line from the tank to the engine bay, the stock fuel pump has worked fine for me
3-Brakes; I used the hard lines on the 7.5 and the splitter box for them, my 88 rotors would not fit on the 4cyl rotors and the 88 spindles would not fit with the 4 cyl struts and 90 and up struts have a diff bolt patern in the strut tower so I just ran 4 cyl brakes till I did the 5 lug conversion a couple weeks later
4-Clutch; I had to get the v8 cable, I still have the 4 cyl quadrant, I tried the parts store to see if there was a diff and finding none I left it
5-Exhaust, I simply pulled my off road x pipe out of the 88 and put it in the 4 cyl car and it fit fine just need the exhaust hanger on the pass side just in front of the fuel tank. I used my 88 cross member but if I remember correctly the later model foxs all had the double hump crossmember thats needed for v8 apps
6-Random; The throttle cable needs to be changed as well as the cruise cable or unit, I haven't tried to see if I can change cruise con cables or not. And I used the v8 drive shaft, I'm still running 4cyl springs and my car doesn't sit all that low but I am going to swap the sway bar in the front, and the v8 bolted in with the 4cyl k mem.
Hope any of this helps, it was kinda a pain but it wasn't too bad

thanks man any bit of info helps and by the way its a five speed and as of parts im planning of buying everything all at once so i dont have any trouble but ive already got some goodies like headers, intake, tbody, and ill be ordering my catback next week and ill be going off to summit racing to get steel braided fuel lines since they have to be changed..How hard was it to change out the cluster and the removal of the dash and all?

wat year donor car would be best to use or what year mustang should i get the motor from and as far as the harness which year is best and what is interchangeable

I didn't have to remove the whole dash to get the cluster out just the just the plastic surround that houses the head light switch and 4 ways.
