Just making sure, is the sway bar the curvy bar,in the front and back.

If it is my just broke , I was just droving along and I start hearing this metal hitting metal sound. So I pull over thinking it was something in the trunk, took everything out and still heard the sound. So I look under the car in the passenger side and look towards the back and see this piece of metal coming down, it broke off, its not bad,its just when I drive and hit hits the ground and the metal.

So my question is, should I buy a stock one or an aftermarket? How much do they run and can I take it off and drive with out it? Is it easy to take off and install?

Thanks for any help

Yep, that's the sway bar. I broke mine too. It's a common problem on our stangs. Don't even bother buying a factory one. Get an Eibach or the likes and never look back. They are super easy to install. Just 4 bolts really. The front is a little harder than the rear if you do both, but it's definitely worth it. You can drive without it on if you need to. I did for about 2 weeks, and there wasn't any major bad effects.

Yup, traction will be killed w/o it in the rear. The front one can be ditched asap.

If you are cheap or broke, just weld it back together.

Did the sway bar break, or the end link?

You guys are hard on those anti-sway bars (Scott, I think John just broke his rear bar recently).

Good luck.

same here, mine broke also, and i took it off and I have'nt replaced it yet. the Cobra one from Ford is $100, don't know how much the Eibach one is. But i do notice a little differance in handling.. Not much, but enough to know i want to replace it.

?????? If i lose the front sway bar will that effect my handling alot?

I think they're selling the Bullit Front and Rear sway bars for $69.99.

common problem, best replacement is a solid cobra upgrade, you can find them for about $100

Mine broke and I had it welded back together. Then it broke in another spot. My buddy's broke on his 97 stang too. I just ditched mine....

Broke two here. I have no sway bar at the moment, lol.

The problem is that our rear suspension has a lot of lateral play and bind. And since our sway bar has no bushings or anything else confining it's movement to pure torsion, it's subjected to alot of bending as well. I think a panhard bar would fix it. Really stupid design I say.

Yeah, a solid tubular bar is a bad design.

But the less play, the more the rear end will plant, and the better traction you get...
