PIP = Profile Ignition Pick up. It tells the puter what the crank's position is. It is responsible to spark and fuel injector timing. The PIP is a two piece sensor located inside the dizzy's bowl.
For descriptor's sake, What Scott described sounds like a bad bushing in the dizzy. it happens.
