Synth 5W30 & higher miles. Worth the 5 HP?

Doing my oil change in a few....

I am heading to the track [finally] 1 more time this weekend to take one last stab at the 12.80-12.90s with stock engine.... I think it'll do it too, as long as its not hot as heck out. I switched from the C&L 73 back to the bored stocker and my funny detonation prob is gone and the car seems to pull harder now. Will bring C&L to track and do some comparos... ANYWAYS...

My motor has about 106000 miles on it, but oil pressure in traffic, even after an hour is 40 PSI @ idle and anything over 1500 RPM is 50 + PSI. It has killer oil press..

Questions:
Will thinner synthetic be ok with the higher miles?
Is it really worth the 5 HP at 45-5000 RPM that they claim? Or is that

If it wont hurt anything and it IS worth 5 HP, then thats some help getting into the 12s LOL. Prolly go with Mobil 1.

I would think you'd want the opposite in oil weight seeing as it's hot where you are and the engine is under intense pressure to perform at high RPM's due to the fact you're drag racing it.

Typically, with conventional oil, in the summer and hot periods of the year, one would use 10W-30 weight oil. In the winter or cold periods, one would use 5W-30 as it's thinner.

For your purposes, I'd think the 5W-30 would break down faster than the 10W-30 which is what you DON'T want.

What are you using? Royal Purple or AIMSOIL???????????????

I've heard great things about Aimsoil! Joe DaSilva uses it and says it's awesome, but at $12 a quart!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Damn

I agree, just that I have heard for instance... after a cooldown at the track, the 5W 30 is thinner and when you go up to the box, burnout, then stage and make a pass, the thinner oil thats not yet up to full operating temp, is what gives the few extra HP. I'll likely just buy the same ol' Castrol GTX I been using for over 10 years in all my cars.

I run 5w30 in everything, I see no problem with it at all. I like the thinner oil for startup, and it will offer the same protection when at operating temp. In fact, I wouldn't run anything other than a 5w30 or 10w30 unless you had a specific reason to (burning oil, engine builder, etc.).

NEO Synthetics makes a killer 0W-5 engine oil.

They also make an 18 weight gear oil, which we supply to NASCAR teams for qualifying, and has been proven in 500 mile Indycar races and 24hr sportscar races. It has the same shear and film strength as conventional 75W-90's.

I wouldn't recommend either for street use, but for drag (or other) racing, it is ideal.
