I already use Amsoil Full Synthetic (and their filter) for oil. Now I am looking for full synthetics for my tranny and rear end. Any suggestions on brand (and order location)?? Thanks. :nice:
it already has mobilie 1 synthetic for both.. Plus i don't think tremec likes you to use synthetic in their tranny even though ford puts it in there.

why dont you go ahead and use Amsoil for your rear-end as well... they are supposed to be the best anyhow... i was gonna go with Amsoil after my gear swap but couldnt come by it over the weekend and got inpatient so i went with Royal Purple.. just as good in my opinion

I went with royal purple after I welded my axle tubes a couple weeks ago. The stuff that was in there from the factory was scary!!!

im probably gonna put in just regular oil in my rear end when i swap my gears. I haven't decided though. I run maxlife full synthetic in my engine and a k&n oil filter. Is there an advantage to welding your axle tubes or whatever?

The only advantage is it strengthens the rear end and prevents the axle tubes from spinning during hard launches.

I had a lot of trouble with rear axle grease seeping past seals when using Royal Purple. I got rid of it, used common hypoid axle oil (Shell), and had no problems afterward.

Contact Snykypete over at Modular Depot. He's an authorized dealer and can get some pretty good deals on Amsoil products. He's who I ordered my motor oil from. Remember, the more you order, the cheaper it is in the end.:nice:

Personally, I'm NOT sold on the whole Synthetic is better than conventional oil thing. But that's just me.
run conventional oil for 100,000 miles and then take the intake assembly off the motor.. then compare with synthetic after 100,000 miles. Let us know which looks clean. Not necessarily better for tranny (especially tremec) or rear end, but for the motor I don't think there are any arguments against the statement that synthetic's characteristics are better.

FYI: The Amsoil 5w-20 in the XL-7500 series is NOT a full synthetic. It is a semi-synthetic same as Motorcraft 5w-20.
Read the bottle, it says "Synthetic 5w-20... Amsoil, the first in synthetics." If it was synthetic blend, it would say synthetic blend on it like the motorcraft stuff. Plus, it wouldn't be 6 bucks a quart.

My dad's uncle has a 64 Dodge Polara 383 4bbl with over 350,000 miles on it. He's the origional owner. Other than 3 Valve jobs, the rest of the engine has NEVER BEEN APART! He's only ever used straight 30w in it from day 1. I'd say that's proof in itself right there. Yes new engines may be a little different than the ones built a while back, but as long as you change your oil religiously ever 3,000 miles like he does, you should be o.k. WITHOUT SYNTHETICS!
I'll stick with 5w20 Valvoline myself.

Compare a bottle of AMSOIL 10w-30 to your bottle of 5w-20. Yes the 5w-20 says SYNTHETIC on it, but on the 10w-30 it will say 100% SYNTHETIC. That's the difference. The 5w-20 is a synthetic made from a mineral base. The 10w-30 is 100% man made synthetic. All of the XL7500 series willonly say synthetic instead of 100% synthetic.

Yes but how 'clean' is the inside of his engine?

Plus I can go 5 or 6000 miles between oil changes with synthetic, almost twice that of old dino oil....

I have an original 239 y-block in my 54 f-100 and it only saw dino oil, but then again, the inside is riddled with gunk.....even though it still runs great.

Looks almost like new. It even has the same cam, lifters, push rods, rocker arms and valve springs that came on it back when it was new. No sludge or build up in the lifter valley. Like I said before, only the valves have been ground. Valve guides, and valve seals have been replaced . Origional rings, pistons and all the bearings. Now granted the guy is in his late 70's early 80's now, so it's not like he's out beating on it or anything. I just don't buy all that :bs: about how superior Synthetic oil is.

Well I look at it this way. I can either use conventional oil and get 4 oil changes a year every 3,000 miles or use synthetic (or near it depending on what your definition of 'is', is...) and get 2 oil changes a year every 6,000 miles.

Being away at college, and having the 2 synthetic oil changes cost close to the same as 4 conventional oil changes, I'll stick with my sythetic choice. :D

Now what's all this banter about Amsoil??
