I've decided to rebuild a t-45. It's been pulled apart and cleaned, but now for the interesting part ASSEMBLY! I've started with the main shaft and the second gear. it seems the logical spot since I have a 3rd gear on order and can't start on that. I added the 1st/2nd sychro setup, but that's where i'm unsure of how things are supposed to work.

How much is the 1st/2nd sychro ring supposed to move from side to side?
I added the synchro blocker trust washer and the retaining ring, and it can't move much at all. It just doesn't seem right. The sychro inserts look to always be causing engagement of the gear.

I think it the sychro hub should sit futher towards the end of the shaft to give the ring more room to move before the inserts hit and engage the gear, but if I do that, there isn't enough room to get the retaining ring on!

Where should the hub be positioned?

Thanks for the help!

Is the hub the same depth on both sides?

Well in the "45" 1st/2nd syncro there should be 3 components involved. An inner -a middle -and an outer blocker rings- then there is the syncro cone. All of which must be "timed" correctly to come up with the right clearance. I might be able to come up with some exploded views for you but I don't think I can send them through this site. I will check the site tommorrow and see if this helps at all.

i have exploded view...and have it the way you described. (per http://pomoforacing.com/tech/PreliminaryT45rebuild.pdf ) I was just concerned that there wasn't much play in the synchro from side to side. It does cover the teeth on the blockers when pushed from side to side so I'm assuming it's correct.

Sorry no help from me, T45's are foreign to me Wondering though, did you buy a rebuild kit or what? My friend offered me his T45 for free and I'm thinking about rebuilding on a weekend or something and selling it for some extra cash haha.

I bought the full rebuild kit from hanlon. Check out http://hanlonmotorsports.com/T45.html for the kits. I also got the beefy shift forks. I think they were about $35.

As long as the locker, blocker and gear mesh they "should" be good to go. In other words the syncronizer should sit within .030-.070 or so from full contact with the gear. In some cases I seen complete and full but usually that is in "WORN" units.
